Bengaluru, Mar 26: Janata Dal (S) Supremo H D Deve Gowda on Monday lambasted AICC Presdent Rahul
Gandhi for his remarks that his party was hobnobbing with the BJP ahead of the
Assembly election in Karnataka and dubbing it as ‘B’ team of the BJP.
Mr Gandhi during his third round of visit to poll-bound
Karnataka during the last two days had charged that JD(S) had become Janata Dal
(Sangh Parivar) and it was kin to the ‘B’ team of the BJP and Mr Gowda should
clarify if he was trying to help the BJP. He also alleged that JD(S) did not
have any ideology.
Replying to Mr Gandhi’s charges, Mr Gowda told reporters here that the AICC President had a long way to go to emerge a ‘matured person’, let alone become a tall political leader. ‘’Mr Gandhi reads notes written by others and is trying to teach a 85-year-old politician like me the mantra of politics. Such irresponsible remarks should be condemned’’, the former Prime Minister said.
Mr Gowda said Mr Gandhi should first realise which Congress was ruling in Karnataka. It was nothing but a faction led by Mr Siddaramaiah who had been a JD(S) leader. He also wondered when did Congress became a clean party. Was it when the party high command denied veteran Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge the post of the Chief Minister and installed Mr Siddaramaiah. ‘’When seven JD(S) legislators defected to Congress the party leaders said it was the end of JD(S). You will never be able to finish off my party. It has not met its doom’s day. But it will be Congress which is poised to suffer a major debacle in the May election, he said.
He said Mr Gandhi had come to poll-bound Karnataka three times in a month. Even if he comes for another 10 times before the coming election, it will not affect the fortunes of JD(S).
‘’If we win majority in the Assembly we will form the government. If not we will sit in the opposition. We have our own values and stand by it,’’ he said clarifying that JD(S) would not align with BJP in the eventuality of a hung Assembly.
Referring to JD(S) State President and his son H D Kumaraswamy’s remarks that if his party stands with BJP, Congress will be wiped out from the state, Mr Gowda said Mr Kumaraswamy had made the comment in a sarcastic manner and it should not be taken in any other sense.
Echoing the Senior's views, Mr Kumaraswamy, in a press conference in Mandya today said that he was answerable to the people of the state and not Mr Gandhi. 'I am not his slave' he said. adding that Mr Gandhi should have been well briefed about the political happenings in the state before he made such remarks.
With reference to Congress President 's remarks that the JD(S) will get only 25 seats in the Assembly poll, Mr Kumaraswamy said that the factual situation would be known after the poll. He said his party was working towards securing a majority. UNI
