Haldwani, Uttarakhand,
Mar 6: Eminent social activist Anna Hazare has said that a vigorous social
movement was required to rescue the "Indian democracy" as the
political movements did not yield the desired results.
Addressing a public rally here on Monday, the leading light
of the Anna Movement also said that there was no possibility of "another
Arvind Kejriwal emerging out of the Anna Movement."
He lambasted the Uttarakhand Government for not constituting the Jan Lokpal. "Now, it is obvious that BJP does not want to stop the corruption," he added.
Mr Hazare urged the people to stand for the cause of the farmers of the country.
He was here to mobilise the people to participate in the national rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Grounds on March 23.
The rally will also focus on the issues related to Jan Lokpal and electoral reforms.
Showing his concern over the recent unusual phenomenon of farmer's suicide in Uttarakhand, he said it has been four years since the BJP came to power at the Centre but the lofty promises were still to be kept. "As a result, the farmers are committing suicide and the governments are not taking any step to stop the farmers from committing suicides," he said.
He charged that the Modi Government at the Centre was not solving the issues of farmers.
He alleged the central government was only focusing on propaganda of GST and demonetisation but not passing the bill in Parliament which has to ensure the five thousand rupees pension for the small peasants.
He lamented that the country was heading towards Hukumshahi (dictatorship) from democracy. "If we don’t resist today, then we will never get the chance to rescue the democracy," Mr Hazare pointed out.
"Twelve lakh farmers have committed suicide in twenty years but the government is not ready to think about their problems. They are not getting minimum price for their crops," he added. UNI
