Agartala, Mar 30: Tripura government has decided to set up a separate crime branch of police for exclusively dealing with crimes like drug peddling , indulging in social unrest and crime on women soon to restore normalcy in the society.
Law minister Ratan Lal Nath told newspersons today that a meeting of council of ministers last night directed the chief secretary to finalise the modalities of functioning of the crime branch consulting with Delhi and Mumbai police.
“To train our cops and begin the process of setting up of crime branch, we shall bring a few number of police officers from Delhi on deputation. They will not only start the operation against criminal activities but also build a team of Tripura police to run the unit independently in future,” Nath said.
He said that smuggling of drugs and contrabands cross border criminal movement, anti-social activities, mafiaism and crime against women have been taken a bad shape in last few years due to political indulgence of the previous government, which BJP-IPFT government wants to improve.
“The government is committed to establishing rule of law in the society irrespective of any political affiliation. The administration is completely defang and police was made incompetent to deal with the situation just to achieve the political mileage of CPI-M,” Nath stated adding that people of Tripura has already felt the change in the governance in past three weeks.
He said that the cabinet also directed the chief secretary to institute enquiry into the cases where previous government allegedly gave land to some private institutes and organizations violating the rules and favouring some particular beneficiaries.
“The government will reclaim those land if found given illegally,” Nath said. UNI
