Agartala, May 11: Tripura government has appointed retired IAS officer of Manipur-Tripura cadre and former secretary to the Government of India Bijoy Kumar Chibbar as special advisor to Chief Minister Biplab Deb to help him in administrative functioning.
Earlier, two more officers were appointed as officer of special duty (OSD) in the chief minister’s office.
In the run up to the Assembly election campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had declared that he would personally look into the development works of Tripura after BJP-IPFT government assumed office after the battle of ballots.
The Prime Minister kept his words by engaging officer like Chibbar, who served various categories including that of Secretary of Road Transport and Highways Ministry. According to report, the veteran officer will not only assist the Chief Minister in administrative works but also lend helping hand to give young chief minister on inputs in various sectors. UNI

Agartala, May 11: Blaming the previous Left front government in Tripura, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb felt, “During the two months tenure of the present government Agartala’s prime referral GBP Hospital has turned good from worst.”
Mr Deb was addressing the three days long Ambedkar Rural Fair at Agartala International ground under the West district of the state at Hapnia on last evening.

The chief minister said, “The worst condition of the GBP hospital considered to be the prime referral hospital of this state has so far let large number of patients fly to Chennai and other parts abroad for better treatment, but the scenario has been changing gradually under the present government.”
“Had the previous chief minister and health minister visit the hospital and thought for quality health care in this state, patients especially the poor would not have to fly abroad spending handsome amount,” adding the Chief Minister said, “Since after the formation of BJP-IPFT coalition government in Tripura, I myself along with the state health minister Sudip Roy Brman has visited the hospital several times.”
Mr Deb said, “The present government in cooperation with the Centre is working to bring down the patients flying Chennai for treatment purpose and push the unemployed youths of the state fly to Mumbai – a business hub.”
“We have direct flight to Chennai but not to Mumbai, henceforth once flight moves to Mumbai like places from Agartala, our unemployed youths who were deprived at large under the previous left front government shall be able to get better job opportunities,” he said. UNI

Agartala, May 9: The CPI (M) MP in Loksabha Jitendra Chaudhury today alleged that severe job and food scarcity hit the villages of the state and so far over 400 Indian citizens from Chowmanu in Dhalai district moved to Bangladesh in search of work in two months of the BJP-IPFT government.
Addressing media Chaudhury alleged the works under MGNREGA has been stopped and the rural job opportunity has been hampered serious because the new government could not pay due attention to the issue rather has been wasting energy on unnecessary matters.
He alleged BJP and its ally Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) of rising a disturbing ‘extra-parliamentary power groups’ who are trying to grab power in villages and rural Panchayets. However, the villagers in rural areas of the state are half-starved and are suffering from severe poverty due to absence of work.
At least 400 odd people from East and West Gobindabari in Chowmanu block (of Dhalai district) stay in Bangladesh to work.
The government claims that funds are available. Why work was not allotted under MGNREGA scheme? He asked.
He wrote a letter to Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb in a query about absence of MGNREGA work. He added that in reply from the CMO was informed that funds were available and all District Magistrates were instructed to clear arrear payments and start work.
The Village Development Committees were formed by BJP and Village Action Committees were formed by IPFT in rural areas, he alleged and claimed that the “extra-Parliamentary groups” were internal strife to grab power and have been quarreling amongst them over share of power.
Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Mrinal Kanti Deb said the allegations were “false talks”. People always move from less developed country to more developed nations in search of livelihood. Tripura’s days are still not that bad to have a son of the soil go to Bangladesh looking for work, Deb added. UNI

Agartala, May 9: The Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb held emergency meeting at State Guest House with the top leaders of BJP and Indigenous Peoples’ Front of Tripura (IPFT) last night following fresh clash reported in Chowmanu of Longtarai valley under Dhalai district, which has left more than 20 people injured.
This was the fourth such major incident in last one month between two partners of the government.
Besides, BJP General Secretary Pratima Bhowmik and Rajib Bhattacharjee; two top leaders of IPFT – party president and Revenue Minister N C Debbarma and General Secretary and Tribal Welfare Minister Mevar Kr Jamatia were attended the meeting where chief minister Deb sent a strong message to party workers of strong action.
“Differences of opinion, grievances and counter view of party perspectives are not unusual in the politics and partnership but it doesn’t mean that the workers would engage in fight to establish superiority in power. There is an elected government, running under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which will not tolerate any such unruly activities,” Deb told in the meeting.
He asked the leaders of both the parties to restrain their workers from violence otherwise; the government would take strong action against the accused without considering any political colour and belief.
The chief minister also constituted a five members coordination committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma to resolve the in fight among the party workers. Both the general secretaries of BJP, President and General Secretary of IPFT were included in the committee. The committee will hold meeting with the local leaders of both the parties in mixed populated areas by next one week.
According to report, IPFT workers have been attacking BJP leaders in hill areas when they refused to join in IPFT. The BJP MLA of Korbok in Gomati district Burbo Mohan Tripura was manhandled last week allegedly by IPFT miscreants and in several other places BJP leaders were attacked.
Besides, continuing agitation for their core demand of separate Twipraland for tribal, IPFT has been demanding their adequate representation in various corporations, village committees and other government institutions, which was not filled up in two months of the government.
Police said, at least 23 political activists of BJP and IPFT were injured in a bloody clash at Chailengtha CRPF camp in Longtharai Valley yesterday following a dispute over alleged that interference of BJP in IPFT’s organisational matter in Chowmanu assembly constituency.
Hundreds of IPFT supporter blockaded Chawmanu-Maynama road demanding BJP MLA of Chowmanu Shambu Lal Chakma must come to address their grievance but he did not turn up. As blockade continues, IPFT MLA of Raima Valley constituency rushed to Maynama tried his best to agitation to get rolled out. UNI

Agartala, Apr 16: Refusing the responsibility of BJP behind sporadic violence have been continuing for about two months in different parts of Tripura, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb today stated that over-enthusiastic people from CPI (M) and other political parties are responsible for perpetrating violence.
Chief minister said that when a delegation of the Left front met him two days ago, he told them the same thing. He said whatever complaints of violence was registered with police, appropriate action was taken against the accused but the claim of the Left front is not corroborated with the police report.
“It has been clear to all concerns no violation of law will be entertained and police is doing it,” Deb said, adding that whatever little violence were reported, none of them are political and outburst of personal enmity. 
As par the party report, whoever is doing the violence have been deserted CPI (M) after election result was announced and they have been doing the nuisance in the name of BJP, Deb, also the president of party.
“The BJP workers were cautioned for provocation to any illegal act and a few actions have already been taken. All the leaders at the local level were directed to maintain peace and tranquility and also tab on the people left CPI (M) after election process was over,” he added.
The Left Front convener Bijan Dhar said that a five member delegation of the Left Front met Biplab Kumar Deb and sought his intervention to stop alleged that attacks on opposition party and trade union offices in the state.
The Left leaders submitted three lists of alleged post-election attacks by BJP and IPFT supporters in Tripura. The lists claim 438 party offices to have been attacked, including 93 cases of arson, 230 ransacked, 52 locked and 63 captured party offices since March 3. Over 1700 houses of the Left supporters and leaders were also attacked, the Left Front claimed.
However, the CM denied role of BJP in the attacks and said turncoats from other parties, including CPI (M) were responsible for attacks on the Left parties. The CM has assured strict action against anybody involved in these attacks.
Dhar said, partly admitted Deb's claim of CPI (M) supporters turning to BJP and attacking the Left party offices. ‘Irrespective of whichever parties they belonged previously, these people (attackers) are now in BJP. They can’t deny their liability, he said.
Deb also invited complaints against any political attack on his personal mobile or WhatsApp number if victims were afraid to approach the police. “I shall take action on any specific case which is found true. However, CPI (M) leaders claimed that the CM said certain parts of the state were always dangerous and sought time to achieve full functionality of the government. UNI

Agartala, Mar 30: Tripura government has decided to set up a separate crime branch of police for exclusively dealing with crimes like drug peddling , indulging in social unrest and crime on women soon to restore normalcy in the society.
Law minister Ratan Lal Nath told newspersons today that a meeting of council of ministers last night directed the chief secretary to finalise the modalities of functioning of the crime branch consulting with Delhi and Mumbai police.
“To train our cops and begin the process of setting up of crime branch, we shall bring a few number of police officers from Delhi on deputation. They will not only start the operation against criminal activities but also build a team of Tripura police to run the unit independently in future,” Nath said.
He said that smuggling of drugs and contrabands cross border criminal movement, anti-social activities, mafiaism and crime against women have been taken a bad shape in last few years due to political indulgence of the previous government, which BJP-IPFT government wants to improve.
“The government is committed to establishing rule of law in the society irrespective of any political affiliation. The administration is completely defang and police was made incompetent to deal with the situation just to achieve the political mileage of CPI-M,” Nath stated adding that people of Tripura has already felt the change in the governance in past three weeks.
He said that the cabinet also directed the chief secretary to institute enquiry into the cases where previous government allegedly gave land to some private institutes and organizations violating the rules and favouring some particular beneficiaries.

Agartala, Mar 26: While appreciating the speech of Governor in maiden session of 12th Tripura assembly last week visioning the development plan of BJP-IPFT government in Tripura for next five years, leader of the opposition Manik Sarkar today urged the chief minister to stop atrocities on CPI(M) leaders and workers.
Sarkar said the vision, which has been projected in the Governor’s speech was quite impressive but the internal law and order situation of the state was deteriorating after announcement of the election result on March 3 last.
“Hundreds of our party offices were ransacked, burnt down and destroyed by BJP supporters. A large number of party workers were assaulted, houses and family members were attacked and many are still in the hospitals. A few hundred of CPI(M) workers could not stay at home following continuous threat and intimidation, which has fade the visionary speech of the Governor,” Sarkar stated in the house.
He alleged that locally some BJP workers have been levied a hefty amount on the CPI(M) supporters after the election result. This is not only confined among the CPI(M) supporters, even some businessmen and professionals were also demanded to pay money for the victory celebration of BJP, Sarkar alleged.
“My appeal to the government to prevent such elements in iron hand, otherwise the people who have voted you to power they will be frustrated and the development agenda what you set at the beginning cannot be implemented properly. The chief minister must take step to restore normalcy and cohesive relation among the people irrespective of political affiliations,” Sarkar urged.
He also mentioned that opposition would be with the government to implement the commitments of the new government for development of Tripura and added, “It is good for Tripura that the same party ruling both centre and the state and Prime Minister promised to help the state government for further development. We are ready to extend all support and cooperation to the government.”
Initiating the discussion to the motion of thanks to the Governor, Parliamentary affairs minister Ratan Lal Nath stated that the governor’s speech reflected a blue-print for the people-friendly and transparent government.
“A pithy slogan of ‘Chalo Paltai’ found a massive resonance in the minds of the people and led to a stunning change of government; in West Bengal the change of 2011 had been foreseen from 2008 with the Panchayet election results but in Tripura the outcome of the assembly polls is sudden and abrupt,” he said.
Lashing out at the CPI(M)’s allegations of post-poll violence Nath said that but for repeated appeals made by the chief minister and other senior BJP leaders and minister for calm and peace, there would have been a blood-bath in the state because of the perfidies and politics of murder in the state over the past twenty five years.
After each and every assembly election from 1993 to 2013 there was a blood bath, large-scale arson, displacement of people and countless rape but nobody was punished because of the culture of impunity followed and practiced by CPI(M) but there is no major incident reported after new government came in power barring a few mischief by some anti-social elements, which the government dealt with strongly, he claimed.
“Whatever few incidents were reported after the election result all had been with CPI(M) and once BJP won the election they changed their colours and restored to violence to malign the government. We have identified all of them and police was asked to take exemplary action against them,” Nath added. UNI

Agartala, March 26: In order to boost the party activities, BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav yesterday held separate meetings with the state committee members, ministers and MLAs.
He indicated that BJP will appoint new president shortly and reconstitute the party functionaries.
Ram Madhav stated that the party has laid down the target for each of the ministers for next 100 days and prepare the report card. While interacting with party MLAs, Ram Madhav reminded them about their responsibilities. Besides, he led a brain storming session with the party leaders about further expansion of the activity at the grass root level and better governance.
The co-ordination between the party and the government is now almost zero for a month now which has created several problems in the functioning of the party and running of the government. The MLAs were directed to hold regular public interaction and listen to their problems followed by personal visit wherever required and report the concerned minister for immediate action.
According to party insiders, Ram Madhav insisted for constituting district and sub-division level development and monitoring committee headed by minister and MLA respectively for better coordination between party and the government as well as ensures better implementation of the development programs.
On the other, in a meeting of IPFT central committee held yesterday, it was decided to appoint the new incumbents to the posts of president and general secretary. But no decision could be taken to that end as the opening session of the meeting was addressed by both Narendra Chandra Debbarma and Mebar Kumar Jamatia. UNI

Agartala, Mar 21: The Central government has assured the newly formed BJP-IPFT government of Tripura to raise two more Indian reserve battalion (IRB) of Tripura State Rifles (TSR), providing at least three lakh LPG connection, skill development training on Hydrocarbon by ONGC, direct assistance of Rs 292 Cr for Urban development, Rs 1320 Cr for district headquarters development and Rs 384 Cr for 24 new Ekalavya Schools.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh agreed to the demand of Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb today regarding rising of IRB, which will create job opportunity for 2200 youths. Tripura has now 12 battalions of TSR and among them five are IR battalions. 
Mr Singh however, assured to seek the feasibility of installation of CCTV cameras on the border fence and to set up the Central Control and Monitoring Rooms so as to prevent illegal cross border activities on the border.
Chief minister Deb said, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan has assured him that total 3 lakh LPG connections under “Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana” would be provided in Tripura in next year, which is now only 41,250.
He has also instructed the officials of his ministry to explore the feasibility of utilization of CSR funds from various corporate houses so as to bear the cost of Rs 1600 on behalf of “Ujjwala’ beneficiaries. He also instructed the Ministry PSUs to upgrade the infrastructure in terms of piped domestic gas supply & CNG, LPG Bottling Plants etc, Deb stated.
“The Union Minister mentioned about the plan under which gas might be delivered to Bangladesh on western side in exchange for Bangladesh delivering gas to Tripura. The ONGC has asked to seek feasibility of making one MMSCMD of gas so that the possibility of setting up a petrochemical or fertilizer plant in Tripura,” he said.
He also asked the ONGC to set up skill development in Hydrocarbon Sector in Tripura. The minister suggested that all the skill training Institutions should be c converged under Tripura Skill Development Corporation for more effective delivery.
On the other, Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep S Puri having heard the chief minister immediately asked his officials for urgent release of Rs 292 Cr in different schemes. The Union Minister requested the CM Tripura to ensure all the Urban Local Bodies Open Air Defecation (ODF) free by using funding under Swatch Bharat Mission (Urban).
Puri assured all the necessary support for Agartala Smart City Project by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. He also assured support for the Externally Aided Projects for development of remaining seven district headquarters at a total cost of Rs1320 Cr.
Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram assured sanction of 24 number of Eklavya Model Residential schools in Tripura in next three years at Rs 384 Cr for constructions of schools and hostels in addition to the recurring cost of Rs 50 Cr per year. The Union Minister also ensured support.for hostels for ST boys and girls and livelihood support to the forest dwellers provided deed under Forest Right Act.
Union Minister for DONER Jitendra Singh assured to extend all possible support for promotion and branding of world class queen variety of pineapples grown in Tripura so as to establish unique identity of Tripura in India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured Tripura to provide all out support for fulfilling the poll promises of the new government and to begin with Union Rural Development Minister assured assistance of Rs 241 Cr on urgent basis to boost rural economy of the state.
Chief Minister had meeting with as many as six central ministers seeking assistance for development of the state and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitely was positive to sanction special plan assistance (SPA) of Rs 350 Cr to meet the committed liabilities as recommended by NITI Aayog.
As agreed to the demand of setting up projects under Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology (CIPET), Union Chemical and Fertilizers Minister assures responded well to ensure direct employment to about 5000 youths annually while the minister in Principle set up Plastic Park in Tripura. UNI

Agartala, March 19: Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb accompanied by Chief Secretary Sanjeev Ranjan reached Delhi last night with the demand of Rs 20,000 Cr special package for managing the fiscal liabilities of Rs 11355.53 Cr on the newly sworn BJP-IPFT government.
The Chief Minister is scheduled to call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, finance minister Arun Jaitely and few other union cabinet ministers in four days visit to pursue for the package and ensure release of the fund pending with the central government for long time due to improper implementation of the projects.
He will apprise the Prime Minister and others about the financial condition of the state and will urge them to release adequate fund to cope up with the situation including the demand of Rs 1400 Cr for implementation of 7th central pay commission for the state government employees.
However, Deputy Chief Minister, also the finance minister, Jishnu Dev Varma reassured to fulfill the poll promises made before the assembly election. He alleged that the previous government failed utterly to maintain the financial discipline and undertook various projects without ensuring fund flow.
“Unless the half done projects undertaken by the previous government is completed, the entire effort will go in vain but for completion of the ongoing projects the state needs at least Rs 1644 Cr. The last government made expenditure and initiated implementation plan of the projects without thinking of it’s completion and maintenance. As a result, many of the projects left half done and many others were not in even usable due to poor maintenance,” Dev Varma stated.
He pointed out that the fiscal deficit of Tripura has been increasing due to absence of specific planning and previous government could not complete many projects despite assured flow of funds. The liabilities of current fiscal is estimated Rs 1644.90 crore.
The statistics are incomplete projects under SPA is Rs 354.20 crore, incomplete projects under State Development Scheme is Rs 510.52 crore, road maintenance of PWD (R&B) is Rs 173.95 crore, major works taken up by PWD (R&B) is Rs 46.09 crore and major works taken up by PWD (R&B) for other departments 560.14 crore.
“The new government inherits liability burden of more than Rs 11000 Cr but we are committed to fulfill the poll promises made before the election. The state government is planning to come out with a roadmap that includes three-prong strategies to rationalize expenditure, generate more revenue and access more funds from the government of India,” Dev Varma added. UNI

Agartala, Mar 9: A historic ascent of the saffron party and a remarkable rise of young 'Turk' Biplab Deb, who became the first BJP Chief Minister of Tripura, brought to an end a quarter century of uninterrupted Left rule in the North Eastern border state.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party veterans L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, besides party chief Amit Shah, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and several dignitaries from various BJP-ruled states were present in the star-studded ceremony where the BJP-IPFT alliance took charge.
Mr Deb (48) was sworn in as the tenth Chief Minister by Governor Tathagata Roy.
Mr Jishnu Deb Barma, a scion of the royal family and a tribal, took oath as the deputy chief minister. Seven Cabinet Ministers also took oath.
Terming the day as celebration of Diwali in Tripura, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the gathering, 'The dream of the people of Tripura and India is same. The light of development has switched on today.'
Thanking the people for installing a BJP-led government, Mr Modi sought the cooperation of the Opposition Left Front which, he said, had experience in running the state.
'The Opposition MLAs have experience, but the newly elected MLAs are fresh,' Mr Modi he pointed out.
'While the new team led by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb is young and has potential, the Opposition leaders have experience. These two coming together can help Tripura march towards greater glories,' Mr Modi said.
'I have come here in the North-East several times, 25 times. Development, good governance and people's participation are more important,' he asserted. 
'The Government is not for the party, but it's for all,' he stated. 
'It's the Government for all,' he said and believed all MLAs will spare no pains for Tripura's development. 
Speaking in Bangla, he said, 'Ei Sarkar apnader" (this government is yours) and assured cooperation of the Centre.
Outgoing chief minister Manik Sarkar was present in the programme, though other Left leaders stayed away.
The highlight of today's swearing-in was Mr Sarkar shaking hands with Prime Minister Narendra Modi who later guided the former out of the venue shortly after the oath ceremony of the new Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues.
The other Ministers sworn in were N C Debbarma, Ratan Lal Nath, Sudip Roy Barman, Pranajit Singhaa Roy, Manoj Kanti Deb, Mebar Kumar Jaamatiya and Santana Chakma.
The Chief Minister said, 'I need the blessings of all dignitaries to implement the commitment, mentioned in the vision documents of the BJP.'
He also waxed eloquent about the media in the state, saying, 'The journalists have played a remarkable role and their help is very important.'
People across the state poured into the ground to witness the event.
The saffron party's performance was path-breaking as from a zero start in the outgoing 60-member Assembly in the 2013 elections it notched 35 seats on its own this time.
Its ally the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) bagged eight seats in this tribal-dominated state which shares its border with Bangladesh.

Attending the swearing-in ceremony, the Prime Minister termed the day as the 'Day of
Celebration of Diwali' in the state.
' The light of development has switched on today, ' The Prime Minister said adding, ' Tripura people are aware of development. '
He thanked all for installing the new Government. ' It's the Government for all, ' he said and believed all MLAs will spare no pains for the development of the state.
' The Opposition MLAs have experience, but the newly elected MLAs are fresh, ' Mr Modi opined.
' I have come here in the North-East several times, 25 times. Development, good goverance and people's participation are more important, ' he asserted and wished more development. He said all people and MLAs of Tripura will work for the development of the state.

Earlier, Governor Tathagata Roy administered the oath of office and secrecy to 48-year-old Deb at a function at Assam Rifles Ground adjacent to Raj Bhawan.
Jishnu Deb Barma, a scion of the royal family and a tribal, took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister.
Seven Cabinet Ministers also took oath along with the Chief Minister.

It was a remarkable performance for the BJP, which had no MLAs in the outgoing Assembly and polled just 1.5 per cent votes in the 2013 elections, losing deposits in 49 of the 50 constituencies it contested, secured over 42 per cent of votes in the February 18, 2018, Tripura elections.

Agartala, Mar 9: The first BJP-IPFT government headed by 48-year old Biplab Kumar Deb will take charge in the northeastern state of Tripura on Friday at a grand swearing in function to be attended among others by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The transition of power would mark the end of 25 years of uninterrupted communists' rule in Tripura, wherein issues related to basic governance, development, creation of infrastructures and job creation figured prominently during the election campaign.
Chief Minister designate Biplab Kumar Deb, who was elected from Banamalipur assembly segment in Agartala, offered puja in all important temples of the state in past two days along with his wife Niti Deb, son Aryan and daughter Shreya.
This year's electoral battle - billed as the first direct electoral contest between the right wing BJP and the communists, the Leftists have been handed over a resounding defeat with BJP and its ally IPFT winning 35 and eight seats respectively. 
The CPI(M) strength nosedived to 16 in the 60-member House. 
For BJP, it was a dream come true and a fairy tale like success as the vote share shot up to 43 per cent from little over one per cent five years back in 2013.
Together with IPFT, the saffron alliance polled 50.5 per cent of votes - staying far ahead 42.7 per cent of the CPI-M.
Prime Minister Modi has already hailed the win in Tripura as historic and a victory of saffron party's ideology as against the communists. BJP chief Amit Shah has said that the Left parties - incidentally chief detractors of RSS and BJP are fast losing out relevance in Indian polity.
BJP leader and Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said in Delhi earlier this week that the results of Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya would mark a significant and "tectonic shift" in the politics of India.
A BJP-NDPP alliance headed by Neiphiu Rio took charge of governance on Thursday, while NPP-leader Conrad Sangma and council of ministers were sworn in on March 6 in Meghalaya. 
The Governor Tathagata Roy will administer the oath of office and secrecy to the new Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, 48, and his colleagues. BJP's Tribal face Jishnu Deb Barma will be the new Deputy Chief Minister in a state where tribals have from time to time have been demanding carving out of a separate homeland for them.
BJP chief Amit Shah, who attended the swearing in ceremony in Nagaland capital Kohima on Thursday has already reached Agartala and held a meeting with senior leaders including Biplab Kumar Deb to settle the claim of ministerial berths. 
Senior legislators Sudip Roy Barman, Ratan Chakraborty and Biswabandhu Sen besides the likes of Rampada Jamatia and Pramod Reang are likely to find berth in the new ministry.
Biplab’s mother Minabala Deb, two elder sisters Bani, Rina and his younger sister Mithu Deb have already reached Agartala from nearby temple town of Udaipur to attend the swearing in ceremony.

Agartala, Mar 6: The BJP has succeeded to win the heart of tribal people of Tripura in the legislature party meeting today by selecting Royal scion Jishnu Dev Varma unanimously as deputy leader while BJP state president Biplab Kumar Deb as leader of the legislators.
Deb accompanied by Dev Varma and top leaders of the party met Governor Tathagata Roy and submitted their formal claim to form the next government of the state. BJP’s ally tribal based Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) two days ago urged to elect a tribal legislator as leader, 
as 17 tribal seats of the 59 was won by BJP and IPFT.
The tribal legislators of both the parties welcomed the decision. Jishnu Dev Varma has been the BJP nominee for Charilam tribal reserved seat, the election of which was adjourned due to death of CPI-M nominee and re-scheduled on March 12 next. However, Dev Varma will take oath along with the chief minister and others on March 9 next.
The BJP parliamentary board representative and Union Road Transport and Highways minister Nitin Gadkari after holding meeting of 35 BJP legislators told media that Biplab Kumar Deb will take oath as Chief Minister and Jishnu Dev Varma will be the deputy chief minister in the 12 –member cabinet.
The oath taking ceremony will be held on March 9 at 1200 hr at Assam Rifles ground in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior ministers of the central government and top leaders of BJP including party’s national president Amit Shah. All 19 Chief Ministers of BJP ruled states were invited to attend the swearing- in ceremony, Gadkari said.
“The legislators proposed the name of both unanimously and after detailed discussion they were elected. The chief minister and deputy chief minister will decide the other members of their cabinet tomorrow with the consultation of Tripura election in-charge Himanta Biswa Sarma and party central observer Sunil Deodhar,” Gadkari said before leaving for Shillong.
Since 1998 when Manik Sarkar assumed office as chief minister, the post of deputy chief minister was abolished despite the demand to resume the post with tribal leader. The BJP since beginning has been flagging the issue against the left front blaming them for not giving due importance to tribal though they won 90 per cent of the seats since 1993.
The CPI-M became unpopular among the tribals when they opposed the IPFT-BJP alliance and accused the Prime Ministers Office of holding meeting with them on their demand twice. The CPI-M suffered a serious set back in the election mainly in the tribal reserved seats due to negative campaign against IPFT.
The tribal people accepted the proposition of constituting a high power committee to address the their socio-economic, cultural and educational issues. Besides, the commitment of empowerment of tribal autonomous district council (ADC), IPFT was given the assurance to include the government.
According to report, in 12 members’ council of ministers BJP will have 10 ministers, including the CM and deputy CM. Along with young and new comers, a few experienced legislators like Ratan Lal Nath, Ratan Chakraborty and Biswa Bandhu Sen are expected to be included in the cabinet. The BJP is ready to offer two ministerial berths for IPFT with important portfolios including tribal welfare and forest.
After BJP legislative party meeting at the State Guest House, BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav and Sunil Deodhar held separate meeting with IPFT legislators including it’s president N C Debbarma and general secretary Mevar Kr Jamatia.
“We shall be joining the cabinet of the alliance government and we are confident about well gesture from BJP. This government will be people’s government, which will be dedicated to fulfill the aspiration of both tribal and non-tribal,” N C Debbarma told media after attending meeting. UNI

New Delhi, Mar 5: With the BJP set to form governments in Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya , the Congress on Monday voiced concern that the ruling party's quest to assume power at any cost’ and ‘by any means’ raised apprehension of destabilising the North Eastern region.
In a series of tweets, AICC media in charge Randeep Surjewala said , 'Every Indian is concerned that assumption of power ‘at any cost’ & ‘by any means’ by BJP isn’t blinding it into destabilising the entire North Eastern region.
Tell tale signs of BJP’s blind quest for power superseding the stability of region, propagation of democracy, nipping the separatist tendencies and ignoring core issues of region are already visible.'
Noting that in Tripura, BJP aligned with IPFT, whose election plank is division of state and which now demands a tribal CM, Mr Surjewala said, 'Time for Modi Govt/ BJP to address both issues.
Does it stand for demand for division of state of Tripura?
Would it reject the demand for a tribal CM?'
Mr Surjewala said that in Nagaland, BJP is in Government with NPF yet fought election in alliance with its Opposition party NDPP.
'NPF won 26 seats & NDPP won 18 seats. With both NPF & NDPP staking claim to form the Govt, Is Nagaland headed for another round of instability like in last 5 yrs?,' he said.
He also questioned the status of implementation of the Naga Accord.
Extending his best wishes to people of Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya, Mr Surjewala said,'We sincerely pray & hope that peace, progress, cohabitation & development will be the agendas pursued by new governments.

New Delhi/Agartala, Mar 3: The BJP is all set to wrest power in CPI-M bastion Tripura as the party and its ally IPFT, according to trends so far, has mustered about 49 per cent of vote share together and is set to win at least 31 seats.
The BJP-IPFT alliance has so far polled 4 lakh votes against 3,48,000 of CPI-M led Left Front.
Prem Shukla of BJP said, "This is the golden moment of Tripura politics and shows the mandate is a tribute to the leadership of the Narendra Modi government and also the organisational leadership of Amit Shah".
According to trends, BJP was leading in 25 seats and IPFT in 6 while the CPI-M was leading in 16.
TV channels show Left parties were leading in 24 as against 35 by the BJP.
"The mandate shows inefficiency of Manik Sarkar government," said Mr Shukla.
Nearly 80 per cent of the state's 3.7 million people are Bengali-speaking Hindus, mostly migrated from Bangladesh. 
Tripura has been ruled by a communist government since 1990s and Manik Sarkar has been Chief Minister since 1998.
The BJP worked on different poll strategies in Tripura unlike in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, where pro-Hindu issues such as the banning of beef, cow vigilantism were under the political spotlight. In Tripura, BJP banked on more pressing issues like unemployment, women empowerment and industrialisation.
Even the state government servants were wooed by none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi promising that the BJP if voted to power will implement 7th Pay Commission report.
The BJP leaders realised that voters in Tripura are essentially pro-Left and many had intellectual affinity to Marxism and thus the BJP leaders worked hard to break the umbilical cord between the voters and pro-Marxist intellectualism.
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath hailed the verdict in northeast especially in Tripura as "historic". 
"This mandate is crucial and a big encouragement for BJP workers across the country," Mr Adityanath said.
The UP Chief Minister had also campaigned aggressively during the elections. UNI
