New Delhi, Mar 17: Union Science and Technology Minister Harsh Vardhan has conferred prestigious
HJ Bhabha Memorial Award to renowned scientist Dr Prakash Chand Jain from
Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) during 105th Session of
Indian Science Congress in recognition of his contributions towards development
of Science and Technology - specifically in the realm of Aerospace
Engineering.
Dr Jain belongs to Hyderabad based Defence
Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), the Indian Science Congress
Association said in a statement.
The 105th Indian Science Congress was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Imphal (Manipur) on Friday.
Indian Science Congress, a five-day event, attracts Scientists from all over India across various disciplines of Science and Technology.
Dr Jain, an alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay , BOYSCAST (DST) Fellow from The Pennsylvania State University USA and educated in Advanced Leadership at The George Washington University USA is highly accomplished and internationally known Scientist.
Beginning of the year 2018 ; Dr Jain received international honour by getting elected as an Associate Fellow of American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).
He is a Fellow of Aeronautical Society of India , Fellow of Telangana Academy of Sciences and Fellow of Institution of Engineers (India).
On this recognition, Dr Jain said, 'I feel overwhelmed and humbled on recognition of my contributions at the highest level towards advancement of Science and Technology. This award is a expectation put forth by the peers for me to deliver back to the Society. This award further adds to my sense of responsibility and commitment in order to deliver the greater service to the Nation in the days ahead. I am extremely thankful to my mentors at DRDO , my alma mater IIT Roorkee , IIT Bombay and my colleagues at DRDL who helped me in this journey.'
Dr Jain is a firm believer that it is the Science and Technology which prospers the Society and he is confident that day is not far when India will emerge on world map as a top Global Leader in the areas of Science and Technology.
To commemorate the birth centenary of the great Indian Scientist Prof HJ Bhabha, the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) instituted this annual award in the year 1989 to be given in every alternate year to honour the distinguished scientist of the country.
Dr HJ Bhabha , a Mechanical Engineer and Nuclear Physicist, was Visionary behind India's Nuclear Power and Space Research Programs. He was Institution builder ; he established Tata Institute of Fundamental Research , Atomic Energy Commission and Atomic Energy Establishment (later renamed as Bhabha Atomic Research Centre BARC).
The Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) established in 1914 is a Professional Body Under Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology. ISCA Charter includes advancing and promoting the cause of science in India. UNI
