Chennai, Mar 15: A
total of 140 cueists would be seen in action in the first YMCA Madras Open Snooker Championship beginning here
tomorrow.
Talking to reporters on Wednesday night, YMCA Madras Chairman David Ravikumar
and Tournament Chief Referee R B Ganesh said it would be a knock out event with
the matches upto the Round of 64 played upto best of 5 frames.
The matches from Round of 32, Pre-qaurters and Quarterfinals would be played under
best of seven frames and the semifinal best of nine frames.
The final, to be held on March 26, would be played under best of 11 frames.
The winner would carry home a purse of Rs 50,000 and the runner-up Rs 30,000. The
losing semifinalists would get Rs 15,000 each and the quarterfinalists Rs 10,000 each.
A cash award of Rs 5,000 would be given for the highest break of the tournament.
All the top stars from Tamil Nadu, including Rafath Habib, Dilip Kumar, Srikrishna,
R Girish, Varun Kumar, have confirmed their participation.
Apart from them, E Pandurangiah, Arvind Kumar and Venkatesah (all from Railways)
would also be seen in action, along with three women cueists Anupama Ramachandran,
Neena Praveen and S Manasvini. UNI
