Additional Superintendent of police Ghanshyam told that a van carrying 16 people dashed into a stationary truck near Pape-da Dhaba at Shahjahanpur-Lakhimpur border on the National Highway 24 at around 0530 hrs. While nine people died on the spot, seven others were critically injured.
The injured were rushed to the district hospital where four of them succumbed to their injuries. Condition of three other injured was stated to be critical.
Anup Awasthi aged about 25 years was driving the van. The deceased were yet to be identified, the ASP said. The victims hailed from Shahjahanpur and Sitapur district. The van was en route to Shahjahanpur from Sitapur and prime facie it appears that the driver dozed off and lost control over the wheels, he added. UNI
