Official sources said that the youth, identified as Gowhar Ahmad Rather, who had received injuries to his head during clashes at Kangan on Monday, succumbed at SKIMS, Soura. “Rather had received firearm injury to his head. The youth also had multiple pellet wounds in his body,” they added.
Police, however, claimed that the 22-year-old youth fell down during a chase by security forces and suffered a head injury after hitting the edge of a drain.
A police spokesperson said that on Monday a group of miscreants had gathered in Kangan market to pelt stones and disturb law and order in the area. “A police party reached the spot. On seeing, the miscreants started running during the course of which, Rather fell down and injured his head on the edge of the drain,” he said.
The spokesperson said the injured person was taken to Trauma Hospital Kangan from where he was referred to SKIMS Soura. “Reports regarding bullet injury are completely false since no bullet was fired on the spot,” he added. UNI
