Chennai, Apr 6: The BJP State President Tamilisai Soundararajan on Friday said that BJP is not
saffronising the universities in the state.
After hoisting the flag at her party office here on the eve
of foundation day, she said that BJP is not saffronising the educational
institutions by appointing vice chancellor to Anna University.
The appointment of M K Surappa as vice chancellor to Anna University is on the basis of merit and it should not be politicised. She said the political partieswho has ruled the state and worked against the farmers on the Cauvery issue, now resorting agitation for political reason.
After a gap of nearly two years, Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Thursday appointed former director of IIT-Ropar M K Surappa as the vice-chancellor of the university for a period of three years from the date of occupying office.
Anna University has been headless since the exit of former vice-chancellor Rajaram in May 2016. Dr Surappa had served as the IIT- Ropar director for six years from 2009 to 2015. A doctorate in metallurgical engineering, Surappa has teaching experience of more than 30 years of which 24 years were spent in the Indian Institute of Science.
He is a fellow of the Indian National Science Academy and a fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering with around 150 research publications in his name.
Meanwhile, DMK Executive president M K Stalin opposed the appointment of M K Surappa as vice chancellor to Anna University. In a statement here, he said the Governor has appointed a Kannadian as vice chancellor to Anna University, whenlarge number of educationists from this state available.
He also urged to the Governor of the state not to saffronise the educational institutions in the state. UNI
