UDHAMPUR, APRIL 13: - District Development Commissioner, Udhampur,
Ravinder Kumar Friday inaugurated
3-day Historic Devika Baisakhi Mela on the bank of holy Devika rivulet in
Udhampur town.
Speaking on the occasion, DDC extended his
greetings to the people on auspicious Baisakhi day and hoped that the festival
brings peace, prosperity and harmony in the state. He said that the historic
Mela on the sacred Devika Ghat has its own significance in which people from
all walks of life visit the place to take holy bath in the sacred Devika
rivulet during the mela.
DDC said that such melas bring people of different
religion, race and region closer which would help to maintain the harmony
amongst all the sections of the society. Later,
DDC had a round of stalls installed by various departments for general awareness
of different government schemes.
He said District administration has made elaborate
arrangements for the smooth conduct of the Mela like uninterrupted power, safe
drinking water, sanitation, medicare, Police Control Room, assistance booth and
security besides various departments have
put up their departmental stalls to educate the masses about the various
schemes especially for socio-economic upliftment.
DDC
emphasized on maintaining cleanliness at the venue of the mela and sought
cooperation from the prominent citizens as well as the visitors in making the venue a polythene free zone and asked
them to ensure no use of polythene bags during the mela.
It was informed that District Information
Center, Udhampur in collaboration with Bureau of outreach communication Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India field outreach Bureau Udhampur presented scintillating cultural programme on first day of
Baisakhi mela.

Management Committee, Suram Chand Sharma, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Subash Dogra, Chef Executive Officer Municipality,
Santosh Kotwal, Additional SP, Faisal Qureshi, Xen
PWD, Mohd Abdullah, Deputy Controller Civil Defence, Shamsher Singh, Secretary , District Red Cross
Society, Dr. V.P Sharma , District Panchayat Officer, Sunaina
Sawney, BDO, Udhampur Rupali Vaid, besides Senior officers of various
departments, Members of Mela Committee and a large number of people were
present on the occasion.
