POONCH, APRIL 06: Deputy Commissioner, Mohammed Aijaz Asad , also Chairman, , District road safety committee convened a meeting to discuss road safety measures, here today.
 Threadbare discussion were held on creation of road safety fund, improvement of road markings , elimination of black  spots, lighting of roads  side, establishment of trauma centers facilities including one on Mughal Road.
 It was decided in the meeting that a mechanism shall be put in place to conduct drives for preventing wrong parking of vehicles in traffic sensitive and busy areas across the district including Mendhar and Surankote as a part of road safety measures".
 It was further decided that for traffic decongestion , Poonch town circular/bypass road and new bus stand will be made functional at the earliest for the vehicles accessing the town through Sher -E- and Kashmir Bridge.
DC directed ARTO to ensure reservation of seats  for women and handicapped persons   in buses and minibuses by prominently painting “Reserved for women and Handicapped Persons” on back of the seat .
He further directed Motor Vehicle Department and Traffic Police to organize road safety awareness programme   in collaboration with Education and Health for all the stakeholders to aware them regarding traffic rules and regulations.
He also directed the concerned to check the practice of charging arbitrary passenger fares and overloading in passenger vehicles particularly during the peak hours
R&B was asked to mark arrows in accident prone areas and erect signage boards indicating routes approaching important locations including government offices.  
It was also given out that the DC has taken up the matter with MD JKSRTC to operate  SRTCs bus service exclusively for ladies and School girls , on some routes.
The meeting was attended by SSP Rajiv Pandey, CMO Mumtaz Bhatti, CEO Poonch and other members of district road safety committee.
