Belgaum (Karnataka),
Apr 11: Amid repeated mention of the welfare schemes and especially ‘Anna
Bhagya’ being touted as a game changer in favour of Congress, a BJP municipal
corporator here has sought to puncture the tall claims of the Chief Minister
Siddaramaiah.
“The Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has played a
gimmick with the people’s sentiment. The scheme ‘Anna Bhagya’ is not really a
state government funded scheme. Belgaum Corporation has received a notice from
Urban Development department under this the municipal has been directed to run
the scheme in our municipal location,” BJP corporator and ruling party leader
in Belgaum municipality Deepak Jamkhandi told here.
He said the scheme would cost the municipality about Rs 4 crore and wondered “from where the corporation would get the money”.
“The municipality has not planned, but the Rs 4 crore additional expenditure has been imposed on us. Where do we get the additional money? What happens to our development projects?,” he said.
Mr Jamkhandi said he has taken up the matter with the state government and a senior bureaucrat from Bengaluru had already spoken to him on this.
“A senior official has called me after I raised the objection. But I said, we are not opposing the scheme. But the Chief Minister should make arrangements for money as well. He cannot announce a scheme and expect people to vote whereas the funds arrangement remain a headache for municipal bodies,” he said.
Mr Jamkhandi, who is also one of the aspirants for BJP ticket for Belgaum South, said, “The people ought to know the Chief Minister. Actually his populism is taking into economic crisis. His populism can prove costly in the long run both for the state government and also municipal bodies”. UNI
