Gold Coast, Apr 14: Indian boxers on Saturday showed their might in the 2018 Commonwealth Games'
Boxing event here as Padma Bhushan Mary Kom and Gaurav Solanki won gold for the
nation, while Amit and Manish Kaushik settled for silver after losing
closely-contested bouts.
Legendary Mary Kom beat Kristina O'Hara on a unanimous points
decision in 45 to 48 kg category. This is the Indian boxer's first medal at
Commonwealth Games and probably the last as she is expected to retire after
this tournament.
In the 52 kg category, Gaurav won gold medal on his debut 4-1 as he beat Irvine in a phenomenal bout.
In the final men's 46-49kg boxing, Amit goes down against England's Galal Yafai but secured silver after a closely contested bout.
The five judges were split 3:1 in their decision, with one of them ruling it as a tie.
Manish settled for silver after a closely contested final against home favourite Harry Garside, who won with a 3:2 split decision in his favour. UNI
