Bengaluru, Apr 5: Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) Chief H D Devegowda has
expressed his doubts over free and fair election held to the Karnataka
Legislative Assembly on May 12.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, Mr
Devegowda said that he met Chief Election Commissioner Om Prakash Rawat and has
brought to his notice about the shortcomings in implementation of election code
etc. misuse of official machinery by the ruling Congress party and have
appealed for taking immediate measures to ensure free and fair election,
CEC Rawat, who arrived along with his two deputies yesterday, is holding discussion with concerned officials about preparedness for the election. He is also scheduled to hold discussion with Political leaders on the steps taken by the authorities and complaints about any shortcomings.
Mr Devegowda said that “I have brought to the knowledge of the CEC about the staff members of the Chief Minister office allegedly collecting money for the election and transport of cash in Police jeeps misusing official machinery in Home Department”,
“ I have also informed about the State Government transferring honest officers and posting officers loyal to the party in Hassan, Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara Districts, ” he added.
He said that there were allegations against top cop Kempaiah, who was appointed as Special Advisor to the Home Minister, acting as Super Home Minister and opposition parties wanted his removal to ensure free and fair election, but he is continuing to work by shifting his office from Vikas Soudha to other premises and influencing in transfer of honest officers..
Mr Devegowda said that he has submitted six complaints to the CEC on various shortcomings in implementation of Election Code in the poll bound State. UNI
