Srinagar, Apr 21: Train
service was resumed in the Kashmir valley on Saturday after remaining suspended
on Friday following damage caused to windowpanes of some coaches on Thursday on
Srinagar-Baramulla track.
We have resumed the train service on all routes in the
Kashmir valley today, a senior railway official told on Saturday morning.
He said train will chug as per schedule on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region. Similarly trains will also run on Srinagar-Badgam in central Kashmir to Baramulla in north, he said.
We were forced to suspend train service on Friday following stone pelting on Srinagar-Badgam-Baramulla track due to which windowpanes of some coaches were damaged. Driver of one of the train had a narrow escape when a stone hit front window, he added. We were forced to suspend train as we have to take into consideration the safety of passengers and rail officials besides rail property, he said.
This was the 9th time when the train service was suspended partially or fully in the Kashmir valley for security reasons.
Train service has become very popular in the Kashmir valley which is being considered safe, fast and cheap against other mode of transport. All trains witness heavy rush of passengers on Saturday from afternoon when people are going to their homes to enjoy Sunday, he said adding similarly on Monday we witness rush of passenger when they (people) resume their business.
Last year train service was suspended for over 50 times in the valley for security reasons. UNI
