28: Addressing a huge congregation of NPP workers and friends at New Delhi late
last evening Prof. Bhim Singh while remembering 54th years of shocking history
when Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru expired, the day Parliament of India was going to meet
that day. He reminded his colleagues and friends that he was the student of
Aligarh Muslim University and the chief organizer of Students congress. He
along with several youth and students leaders prepared a memorandum for the
Prime Minister, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru and all of them resorted to fast unto
death in front of the Parliament that day demanding ‘call back’ of
Sheikh Mohd. Abdullah from Pakistan who had gone to Pakistan with the approval
of the Indian Prime Minister. Sheikh Abdullah had made highly
objectionable statement challenging the integration of J&K with the rest of
the country. The students Congress was demanding return of Sheikh Abdullah and
condemning his statement in Pakistan.
The Students Congress decided to resort to hunger strike in front of
Parliament, the day, the Parliament was sitting in session. The Parliament was
to meet at 11.00 am. Prof.
Bhim Singh with a strong team of Students congress and its patrons started
hunger strike at 9.00 am in
front of the Parliament. The prominent leaders of the students Congress
who joined the hunger strike included Shri Rashpaul Singh, presently a
Sr.Advocate in J&K High Court, Shri Shiv Charan Singh (Retd. ZEO), Shri
Kamal Gandotra, Shri Asim Shah (late), Shri Suresh Anadi (Late), Shri Raj
Sehgal (late), Shri S. Pathak (late), Shri Durga Dass Abrol (late) and many
others student leaders from J&K. The Students Congress leaders were
demanding call back of Sheikh Abdullah from Pakistan and amendment of Article
370 and Fundamental Rights for all in Jammu and Kashmir.
Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru could not reach the Parliament house. He was declared
dead. Shri Lal Bhadur Shastri the then Union Minister came with folded hands
and appealed to all those who were sitting on protest, hunger strikes in
front of Parliament to close their protest and join the funeral procession of
the great leader and the first Prime Minister of India, Nehru Ji.
Prof.Bhim Singh reminded his friends that the hunger strikers joined the
funeral procession of the great leader and the first Prime Minister of India.
Prof. Bhim Singh told his friends that JKNPP was founded in 1982 after 18 years
after this sad day. The Panthers Party Chief Patron said that the movement of
this National Integration of J&K movement was founded in the sixties with
his friends and colleagues in the sixties. He said that this day, 27th of May,
1964 has a very touching relationship in his life. He along with his friends
paid rich tributes to the first Prime Minister of India, Pt. Jawaharlal
Nehru. He told friends in Delhi that he was detained and arrested with the Raj
Kumar Sehgal and Mirza Abdul Rashid in Srinagar a few days after the death of
Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru in 1964.
