JAMMU, MAY 21: Intensifying its
drive to keep check on the price and quality of various commodities in view of
ongoing holy month of Ramzan, Enforcement Wing of Legal Metrology department
inspected various establishments, here today.
The team headed
by Assistant Controller, Ajay Kumar Verma conducted surprise checking
of business establishment in various localities including Karan
Market Jammu, BC Road, Maheshpura Chowk, Amphalla, Sarwal, Janipur,
Thather, Akhnoor and adjoining Areas.
Business
establishments of meat sellers, chicken, vegetable, fruit, bakery, sweets,
LPG dealers, utensils shops were inspected for their compliance with regards to
various provisions of J&K Standard of Weights and Measures Enforcement Act
2011(Amended) and packages Commodities rules.
17 traders were
booked and penalty of Rs18000.00 was imposed on12 traders for
violations of the act and notices were issued to the remaining traders.
The Department also directed
the traders to use weighing and measuring instruments duly verified
and authenticated by the LMD and ensure that Maximum
Retail Price(MRP), Date of Packing (PKD), Net Contents and complete address of
the Manufacturer/ Packer andconsumer care number have been
declared onthe commodities to be sold in package form as per
Legal Metrology Package commodities Rules 2011.
The Department also warned the unscrupulous traders to desist away from
using unfair trade and anti-consumerspractices while it appealed the
consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing the commodities especially during
the festival seasons.
