New Delhi, May 19: The counsel for BJP Mukul Rohatagi on Saturday welcomed the Supreme Court order rejecting the Congress-JD(S) plea against the appointment of K G Bopaiah as the Protem Speaker.
“It was a desperate attempt and more of a political posturing. The Court has rejected their plea,” Mr Rohatagi told reporters here.
“The attempt to remove Bopaiah and also to get senior most MLA to the post has been rejected,” he said.
He said for ‘transparency’ in the conduct of the proceedings in the House, the Protem Speaker has already ordered live telecast. The apex court has allowed the live telecast of the proceedings in the state assembly.
The counsel for Congress and JD(S) Abhishek Manusinghvi, however, tried to put up a brave face and said,
"Most important objective was to establish transparency. Since the statement has come from BJP counsel
that live feed of proceedings would be given on television, we hope and trust there would be fairness".
"I have no doubt that the victory would be of Congress & JD(S)alliance," he added. UNI
