New Delhi, May 18: Close on the heels of Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala appointing BJP legislator K G Bopaiah as the Protem Speaker of the state assembly, the Congress said it is "not the right thing" to do.
"BJP has not done the right thing....But what we do about it we will tell you later," Congress spokesman Abhishekmanu Singhvi told reporters here.
He said, "So far the convention even in Parliament is the Protem Speaker of Lok Sabha should go to the senior most member".
K G Bopaiah is BJP MLA for Virajpet.
Mr Bopaiah has been a former Speaker of the state legislature.
The speculation was rife on whether seven time MLA R V Deshpande of Congress would get the nod of the Governor to be Protem Speaker.
The role of Protem Speaker has become significant in view of Saturday's trial of strength wherein Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has to prove his numbers on the floor of the assembly. UNI
