Bengaluru, May 14: The verdict will be out to identify the next ruler of Karnataka on Tuesday when counting of votes in 222 of the 224 Legislative Assembly constituencies would begin 0800 hrs in one of the most bitterly fought elections in the history of the state.
The state had recorded the highest ever polling of 72.36 per cent on May 12 polling beating the previous best of 71.13 recorded in 1978 and 71.45 per cent in the 2013 elections.
There are 2622 candidates in the fray with the Congress having 220, BJP 222 and the JD(S) 191. As many as 182 members of the outgoing 14th Assembly are seeking re-election. Among the contestants 119 were women.
Ruling Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party are the main contenders with the Janata Dal (secular) of former Prime Minister H D Devegowda putting up a matching fight to claim that they were also in the run for ruling the next next five years.
All the three political parties have rejected the verdict by a number of exit polls which expected a fractured mandate with the BJP having an edge with its numbers like to cross
the three figure mark, yet short of majority of 113 in the 224 member house. Polling in Jayanagar has been countermanded due to death of BJP candidate while in Rajarajeshwari Nagar polling is deferred to May 28 due to large scale election malpractice.

The rest have one counting center each. In all 11,160 personnel would be involved in the counting process which would be held under tight security arrangements.
Prominent among those whose fate would be decided included Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Chamundeshwari and Badami, Former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa in Shikaripura, former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy in Ramanagara and Channapatna and KPCC President G Parameshwara in Koratagere. UNI
