Bengaluru, May 14: Re-polling is in progress on Monday at three polling booths of Karnataka, the voting for which took place on Saturday.
Under the directives of the Election Commission, re-polling are being held in two booths in Kushtagi constituency of Koppal Taluk in Raichur district and in booth in Hebbal in Bengaluru. The repoll that began at 0700 hours will be held up to 1800 hours.
The State Chief Electoral Officer Sanjiv kumar has said re-polling has been necessitated due to mal-functioning in EVMs in two polling stations in Kustagi in Raichur district.
This comes in addition to a single booth in Lottegollahanahalli under Hebbal constituency in Bengaluru where the poll panel has ordered a re-poll.
In Hebbal, re-polling is being held at station No. 2 located at Gandhi Vidyalaya, Kannada and Tamil Primary School of Lottegollahalli.
Mr Sanjiv Kumar said on Sunday that the Kushtagi repoll was necessitated because of a procedural error -
as around 275 voters were shifted from the booth No. 20 to 21, but their names continued to appear in the list for booth No. 20.
Thus, re-polling has been ordered for both booths.
The counting of votes polled on May 12 and today will be held at 36 counting centers in the country on Tuesday.
Polling was countermanded in Jayanagara in Bengaluru following death of sitting MLA and BJP candidate B N Vijayakumar, while the polling was deferred at Rajarajeshwari constitutency folloiwng seizer of Voting IDs. UNI
