Kolhapur, May 14 :  A total bandh, demanding implementation of Warna drinking water scheme for Ichalkaranji town, was observed by an all political parties action committee on Monday.

All business activities, including powerloom factories, markets, hotels, vegetables markets, remained closed their daily activities and supported the bandh. Different powerloom associations, labor associations, auto rickshaw organisations, social organisations expressed their support to the bandh.

Alka Swami, president of Ichalkaranji Municipal Council and the Committee convenor, said in a statement that it was unfortunate to fight for drinking water for the city and as a sister, she met Danoli villagers for the demand of water for the city peoples  but they expressing their oppose for the scheme.

"On this ground, there was no alternative to call a bandh to demand for implementation the scheme immediately and we should show to the goverment of our requirement of water for the city," she said.
Ms Swami said the government had already approved the water scheme under Amrut scheme with consider capacity of water storage on Warna dam. The government had reserved 1.6 TMC water from total water
storage of Warna dam to provide pure and sufficient water to the city but following sever oppose by Danoli villagers and other villages, the works of the scheme has totally been stopped.
Later, a huge morcha was taken out from Shivaji Putala area of the city with shouting slogans for implementation of the scheme. After passing through the main streets, the morcha reached at divisional office where a delegation met officer Sameer Shingate and handed over a memorandum of their demands.
