SRINAGAR, MAY 9: A four
member delegation of Kashmir University Teachers
Association led by its President Dr. Muheet Ahmed Butt, met Governor N.N.
Vohra, Chancellor of the University, at the Raj Bhavan today.
The
delegation submitted a memorandum regarding certain important issues concerning
the University of Kashmir. These included expediting the selection process of
the new Vice-Chancellor and constitution of a committee to monitor performance
of Vice-Chancellor on an annual basis; constitution of Student’s
Council and Student’s grievance cell; streamlining and strengthening of
the existing student feedback mechanism so that apart from taking feedback on teachers
and their teaching quality, recommendations about their courses, departments,
HoDs and University should also be taken; enhancement in the retirement age of
University teachers; time bound disposal of promotion cases of teachers; grant
of sufficient number of faculty positions and financial support for development
of Institute of Technology,
Zakura and addressing various issues relating to development of North and South
campuses and satellite campuses of the University; and consider appointment of
only academicians on all academic positions in the University.
Governor
assured the delegation early consideration of all the issues raised by them and
stressed the high responsibility of faculty members, Deans and the
Vice-Chancellor to regularly advise and guide the students in regard to their
academic and all other problems faced by them, of whatever kind. The teachers
must also remain totally devoted to promoting the interests of the University
on all fronts and not get drawn into extraneous interests and partisan
controversies. He regretted that the institution had been unable to adequately
meet the arising challenges for want of will and concerted action.
