PULWAMA, JUNE
12: Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Ghulam Mohammed Dar refuted a
news item carried by a local daily regarding the closure of vital road linking
Acchan to Heff and other adjacent areas in the district and terming it
as not correct.
He clarified that
only temporary barrier has been put in place on the road from Acchan connecting
Heff and other adjacent areas to keep a check on the extraction of minerals and
other materials from Nallah Rambiar.
The step
(installing temporary barrier) is to stop the illegal extraction of sand,
gravel, and boulders which has not only resulted into the disruption of the
fragile ecology of the Nallah but also causes a great deal of inconvenience to
the local populace.
It is pertinent
to mention here that the protection bund worth Rs 2 crore which was carried out
during last financial year has also been damaged due to the unabated extraction
of materials.
“It was only
after repeated demand from the public in large that district administration has
put this barrier in place. Moreover, only tippers and trucks and other heavy
vehicular traffic have been stopped to ply on the road and all the local
traffic is smoothly plying,” the DC said.
Dar further said that the government is committed for the strengthening
of the infrastructure especially roads which serves as arteries for the
economic development of the state and there is no reason to close the vital
road links which causes inconvenience to the people.
