AHD to provide poultry at 15% discount
SRINAGAR, JUNE 14: Minister
for Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, Abdul Ghani Kohli today convened a
meeting to assess the arrangements being put in place for providing hassle free
sale of poultry items by the department in Kashmir on the eve of
Eid-ul-Fitr.
The Minister was taking stock of the arrangements being put in place by
the Department of Animal Husbandry(AHD) in view of the ensuing Eid Festivities.
The
meeting was informed that the department has 47 sale centres functional in
the Kashmir valley including 10 mobile sale centres which provide the consumers
with live as well as dressed poultry that has undergone several quality checks
and is cheaper by 10-15 percent compared to the market rates. Additionally, the
department operates 3 sale centres around the year at Gaw Kadal, Baramulla and
Sopore, the meeting was informed.
Additionally,
65000 birds are expected to be sold under the market intervention measures of
the department, which buys from farmers at a 10-15% higher price and sells to
the consumers at up to 10-15% discount. This measure protects the interests of
both consumers and the farmers apart the from stabilizing the prices in the
market.
It was also given out that in addition, 1700 desi type birds are also
being sold by the department on the eve of eid. A full list of sale centres is
available on the website of the department (jkahd.net). Mobile sale
vans take the poultry birds to areas where limited stocks exist like higher
reaches of the valley.
The
Minister implored all concerned to cater to peoples demands round the clock
this festive season and ensure that people living in far reaches of the state
also get benefited from these interventions.
The
meeting was also attended by Dr MY Chaproo, Director Animal Husbandry Kashmir,
Dr Reyaz Ahmad, Joint Director Poultry Kashmir and other senior officers of the
department.
