Projects Rs 382 cr for maintenance, completion of PHE Schemes
NEW DELHI JUNE 14: Minister for
PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary today attended review
meeting on National Consultation on National Rural Drinking Water Programme
(NRDWP) & Swajal reforms and to discuss the ways forward in achieving the
target.
Union Minister of Drinking Water and Sanitation Ms. Uma Bharti was
in the chair.
Union Minister of State for Drinking Water and Sanitation and Union Secretary, Drinking Water and
Sanitation also present in the meeting.
The meeting was also attended by PHE, Irrigation and Flood
Control Ministers and concerned Secretaries of different states of
the country.
Through the power point presentation, it was emphasized that every
household needs to be covered under the schemes ensuring provision of quality
potable water. The thrust was made on to harvest
the rain water, besides preservation and conservation of water resources
for next generation as it is the need of the hour. It was
enjoined upon the concerned for carrying out periodically tests of water
for ensuring quality of potable water before its supply to people.
The Union Minister informed that ample funds are available under
the schemes launched by the Union Ministry of Drinking Water and
Sanitation especially under “NRDWP” and “Swajal”, adding that the funds
would be released under these schemes after production of Utilization
Certificate (UC). She also asked for preparing separate schemes for the
laboratories where water contains arsenic and fluoride.
Speaking on the occasion, Sham Choudhary presented
overview of PHE Sector in the state and difficulties being confronted on
various fronts in the sector.
Projecting the demand for release of funds for maintenance and
completion of various schemes under PHE Sector, Sham Choudhary
demanded Rs 70 crore annually for maintenance of 3700 PHE fully functional
schemes in the State. He also projected an amount of Rs 311.19 crore
for completion of 152 Schemes which are at initial stage, besides Rs 350
crore for completion of 243 cost overrun schemes under the sector.
