JAMMU JUNE 14: Intensifying its
drive to protect consumers from exploitation by unscrupulous traders and to
keep check on the price of essential
commodities in view of ensuing Eid-ul-Fitr, Enforcement wing
of Legal Metrology conducted market inspections , here
today.
The team
conducted surprise checking of different business establishment in various
localities including Dogra Chowk, Pacca Danga, BC Road , Janipur,
Roop Nagar , Akhnoor and adjoining areas .
During
inspection, different business establishments were inspected for their
compliance with regard to various provisions of J&K Standard of weights and
Measures Enforcement Act 2011(Amended) and packages
Commodities rules.
The 10
erring traders were booked and penalty of Rs22400.00 was imposed on them for
violation of various provisions of the Act.
The traders
were also directed to ensure that Maximum Retail Price ( MRP),
Date of Packing ( PKD), Net Contents and complete address of the Manufacturer
and Consumer Care Number have been declared on the Commodities
to be sold in package form as per Legal Metrology Package commodities
Rules 2011.
The Department also warned the unscrupulous
traders to desist from using unfair trade and anti consumers Practices and also
appealed to the consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing the commodities
especially during the festival seasons
