SRINAGAR,
JUNE 30: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, today
chaired a meeting of heads of various departments to review preparedness in
view of inclement weather and possible flood-like situation.
He
directed the officers to be ready to meet any eventuality by being prepared
with adequate men and material. He directed for deployment of dedicated
I&FC officials at river banks, ensure availability of boats, ration, water
tankers, trucks to carry boats, relief tents, establishing rehabilitation
shelters with full facilities and setting up of medical camps.
Khan
asked the officials to identify 44 additional locations in the radius of 1-2
km’s from river banks where emergency centres can be set up besides already
established shelters to cope up with possible additional need.
He
directed the Chief Engineer Public Health Engineering Department to ensure
sufficient availability of water tankers in Srinagar city especially in the
flood-prone areas to avoid the shortage of drinking water.
He also
directed Chairman LAWDA to ensure availability of 70 boats in case of rescue
operation for which the carrier trucks will be provided by SRTC department.
Khan
directed DG Health Services Kashmir Dr. Saleem Ur Rehman to ensure that the
medical teams are stay put along with medicines and ambulances.
The
Divisional Commissioner directed that an official handout be made public
mentioning relief camp name, location, catchment areas and emergency numbers.
The Srinagar Municipal Corporation was directed to clear all drains to
prevent water-logging.
