SRINAGAR,
JULY 12: DC Office Srinagar Thursday hosted an interactive seminar on disaster
management by the Vice President, Asia Programme Development,
International University School of Medicine Professor
Dr Ravi Jyee.
The programme was
attended by officers from various departments from Budgam and Ganderbal besides
the Srinagar district. The participants also included disaster management
professionals from all three districts.
Dr Jyee
considered as an authority on the subject gave a detailed lecture on disaster
management during the session highlighting the need for administrative
proactiveness and preparedness to deal with disaster situations.
The programme
included sessions on both causal factors and remedial measures required to
effectively deal with disaster situations in a disaster-prone state like
J&K.
He stressed that
decreasing forest cover, filling up of water bodies and shrinking capacity of
water bodies are the main causes leading to frequent flooding in the State and
emphasized the need for reversing these.
The interactive
session also included a question-answer session on the subject.
Professor Ravi Jyee has authored the acclaimed
12-volume International Encyclopedia on Disaster Management.
