SRINAGAR,
JULY 07: A session on skill development and entrepreneurship for women
was held today at the ongoing four-day ‘Poash Wahraat’ event at Institute of
Hotel Management, Srinagar.
The
session included a presentation from J&K Skill Development Mission (JKSDM)
which highlighted the different avenues of skill development meant for women in
term of employability and income earning opportunities.
The
‘Poash Wahraat’ event is being organized by POASH, a non-political,
women-centric initiative focused on women empowerment in the valley and
providing platform for women entrepreneurs and business houses to showcase
their products and highlight their accomplishments.
The
four-day event includes an exhibition of 30 different entrepreneurs of the
valley, cultural shows, musical programs, Kaarigarmela –presented by different
artisans of the valley, Hunar- job mela, Baithak- a women conclave and Kashur
bazaar by school students.
“Early
skill development of youth in schools and colleges is the need of the hour.
Skill Development programs meant for women are aimed to provide skills and
confidence to women and help them to achieve economic and social independence,”
an official of JKSDM said.
Organizer
of the event Asma Wali said, “The platform will provide an opportunity for
interested young and budding entrepreneurs to learn from the success,
experiences and challenges faced by various skill and entrepreneurship
development stakeholders.”
The session was attended by representatives from JKSDM, women
entrepreneurs, students and various skill development stakeholders.
