UDHAMPUR, JULY 11: The ‘World Population Day’ was observed today
at various places in Udhampur district.
The main function
was organized by District Health Society Udhampur in the premises of ANMT
School with District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Ravinder Kumar as the
chief guest
Other government
functionaries present were Programme Officer, ICDS, Rimpi Ohri, Chief Medical
Officer, Dr. K.C Dogra, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Dr. S.D Atri,
District Immunization Officer, Dr. Santosh Sharma, Medical Superintendent
District Hospital, Vijay Kumar Basnotra besides Block Medical Officers of
various blocks, Multi Health Workers and ASHAs were present on the occasion.
In his address, the
DDC stated that the main objective of observing this day is to raise awareness
about global population issues, the prime being to lower the population growth.
He added that with the increase in the population, the consumption of natural
resources has also gone up as a result of which humankind is left with limited
natural resources. He said the need of the hour is to generate awareness
regarding the population issues and its impact on development and the
environment.
The chief guest
also stressed on the importance of family planning. He called
upon ASHA workers to educate and motivate not only the women folk but also the
men and aware them regarding the health care and their role in controlling the
increasing population of the country.
The Chief Medical
Officer highlighted the aim and objectives of the world population day.
Medical
Superintendent, District Hospital Dr. Vijay Kumar Basnotra presented vote of
thanks.
Various speakers
from ANMT School also threw light on the topic. A skit highlighting the
advantages of having a small family and disadvantages of a large family was
also presented by Folk cultural troupe Ramalo Ram and Party and students of
ANMT School.
Similar programmes
were also observed at various institutions in the district.
