DC Kargil reviews arrangements for Kargil-Ladakh festival-2018

KARGIL, AUGUST 02: Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer, LAHDC Kargil, Vikas Kundal today reviewed the arrangements for the Kargil-Ladakh Tourism Festival-2018 in a meeting here.

The four-day long Kargil-Ladakh Tourism Festival-2018 is all set to commence from September 4th and 5th at Kargil and September 8th and 9th at Zanskar Tehsil. Threadbare discussions was held on arrangements to be put in place by the Tourism Department for the festival. Issues related to boarding and lodging, transportation of the participating artists, polo, archery players besides several other issues were also discussed in detail.

The Assistant Director Tourism, Kargil, Aga Toha briefed the meeting about the arrangements. He informed that the Department had already taken requisite steps for the promotion of the four-day event and a good number of tourists from different parts of the country and abroad was likely to witness the cultural and traditional extravaganza.

Giving details of the major events of the festival, it was informed in the meeting that cultural programme by different ethnic groups, traditional games such as horse polo and archery, exhibition of local handicraft and handloom items, display of local ethnic food, local fruit and other fruit products, recreational activities like rafting, short trekking, theatre show by local Theatre Group (Ranthak), traditional horse race, thank a horse race, thank a exhibition and FAME tour of media persons and travel writers.

It was also informed in the meeting that the venue at Kargil will be Khree Sultan Cho Sports Stadium Kargil on 4th and 5th September and venue for Zanaskar at Tourist Complex PadumZanaskar on September 08 & 09, 2018.

Addressing the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner asked all the district officers to work with utmost dedication and tandem and also instructed them to extend every possible assistance to the Tourism Department to make the event a grand success. He said that organizing of such festivals in the district should provide a platform to promote tourism activities. He stressed for engaging of renowned local artists, archery and polo players for cultural event, which will feature folk dance, music and other art forms of the district.
