JAMMU, AUGUST 22: Eid-ul-Azha was
celebrated with religious fervor and gaiety across Jammu today. People in large
numbers, clad in colourful dresses were seen attending
congregational prayers at Eidgahs, mosques and other places.
The main
congregation in Jammu was held at Eidgah, Residency road where thousands of
Muslims drawn from different parts of city and outskirts offered the Eid Namaz
in the morning.
On
the occasion, Divisional Commissioner, Sanjeev Verma, Inspector General of
Police, Dr S D Singh Jamwal, Deputy Commissioner, Ramesh Kumar, Senior
Superintendent of Police, Vivek Gupta besides other senior functionaries of
police and civil administration were also present on the occasion and exchanged
Eid greetings with Muslim brethren and prayed for peace and tranquility in the
State.
A spirit of
festivity marked the celebrations, people exchanged greetings and large
gatherings were seen at mosques which were decorated magnificently and the
markets were abuzz with activity.
Meanwhile, elaborate security and other necessary arrangements were made
by civil and police administration for smooth celebration of Eid festival.
