New Delhi, Sep 20: Several passengers on a Jet Airways flight from Mumbai to Jaipur Thursday suffered nasal and ear bleeding due to cabin pressure problem, a senior official said.
The Boeing 737 aircraft returned to Mumbai.
"During climb, the crew forgot to select bleed switch due to which cabin pressurisation could not be maintained.
"As a result, oxygen masks got deployed," the official at aviation regulator DGCA said.
Citing initial information, the official said few passengers have nose bleeding.
"Out of 166 passengers on board, 30 passengers are affected... some have nose bleeding, few have ear bleeding and some are complaining of headache," he added.
The official said all the affected passengers are being attended to by the doctors at the airport. Response from a Jet Airways spokesperson was awaited. (PTI)
Mumbai, Aug 17: Beleaguered carrier Jet Airways is in advanced stage of discussions with TruJet to sublease up to seven of its ATR planes to the regional carrier as it seeks to reduce costs and mop up additional revenues amid cash drought, according to an industry source.
These planes are likely to be subleased with its complete crew, maintenance and insurance.
The Naresh Goyal-promoted full service carrier currently has 15 ATRs in its fleet. TruJet, which started operations in July 2015 has an all ATR fleet.
The deal may be stitched by this month, the source privy to the development said.
The Mumbai-based carrier had attempted to phase out these regional jets in the past as well.
"Both Jet Airways and TruJet are in the advanced stage of negotiations on the ATR deal. As per the on-going discussions, TruJet will initially lease seven ATRs from Jet Airways," the source told.
While TruJet confirmed its discussions with Jet Airways, the latter said that "it continues to evaluate all possible alternatives".
Partially-owned by Gulf carrier Etihad, Jet Airways has been flying into turbulence since the beginning of this year, having reported a massive loss of over Rs 1,000 crore in March quarter.
The source said that the sublease period was likely to be for five years, and under a wet lease arrangement, adding, "If the deal gets through, TruJet could opt for more such planes from the airline."
A wet lease is an arrangement under which one airline provides an aircraft, its complete crew, maintenance and insurance to another airline.
"We are working options to induct up to seven aircraft for short period from Jet Airways," a TruJet spokesperson said in a statement to.
The Hyderabad based airline had last month said it plans to acquire five to seven ATRs and expand the network to 20 more routes by the end of FY19.
The carrier currently has five ATR-72s and connects 14 destinations including some under the Centre's regional connectivity scheme, Udan.
"Jet Airways continues to evaluate all possible alternatives to ensure optimum utilisation of its fleet," a Jet Airways spokesperson told.
"Owing to our quiet period, we're unable to respond to further specific queries," the spokesperson added.
The airline management, which had previously deferred its quarterly results stating it needed more time to finalise accounts, today informed exchanges that its board will meet on August 27 to consider June quarter earnings. (PTI)
New Delhi, Aug 9: A senior bureaucrat of the government has alleged "racial discrimination" and "rude behaviour" by the British Airways, which deplaned him and his family from a flight to Berlin from London last month minutes before take off because his three-year-old son was crying onboard.
The bureaucrat, in a letter to Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu on August 3, has alleged that another Indian family, sitting behind them, was also offloaded as they offered biscuits to the child to console him.
The incident happened on July 23.
The bureaucrat alleged that the crew got the plane (BA 8495) to return to the tarmac, where the security personnel took their boarding passes away. The customer care service manager did not give reasons for offloading them nor the management took action against the crew despite lodging a complaint, he claimed.
"We had to make our own arrangements for staying and travelling to Berlin the next day by paying a very hefty amount," he said, adding that the other Indian family was given tickets for a flight the next day, without any accommodation though.
The bureaucrat is a joint secretary-level officer in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
When contacted, a British Airways spokesperson said, "We take such claims very seriously and do not tolerate discrimination of any kind. We have started a full investigation and are in contact with the customer."
Narrating his family's ordeal in the two-page letter to Prabhu, the officer demanded a thorough investigation and strictest possible action against the British Airways staff.
He said while his wife managed to calm their son, an "aggrieved" crew member approached them and started scolding the boy, asking him to get back to his seat. The boy had a window seat, but the mother had taken him into her arms to console him.
"With this unusual behaviour of the male crew member, my son got terrified and started crying intensively. My wife again put the boy on his designated seat and fastened the seat-belt, even though he kept on crying intensively being in a terrified state of mind due to the scolding by the male crew member," the officer wrote to Prabhu.
He alleged that when the plane started moving towards the runway, the crew member came back, shouting, "You bloody keep quite, otherwise you would be thrown out of the window." (PTI)
Hyderabad, Aug 2: One of the engines of a Jazeera Airways aircraft, carrying about 150 passengers, caught fire after the plane landed at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here in the early hours today.
Airport sources said the Air Traffic Control and also some members of the ground staff noticed a "minor fire" soon after the plane landed and informed the pilot of J9-608 Kuwait-Hyderabad flight, who shut down both the engines immediately.
"The incident occurred at 1.30 am. There was a minor fire in the right engine and it died out after some time. However, a thorough investigation will be conducted in the matter," the sources said.
All the passengers disembarked safely and no injuries were reported, they added.
The aircraft was towed from the taxiway to the parking bay.
Jazeera Airlines officials were not immediately available for comment. (PTI)
