Banda (UP), Jan 11 : A 16-year-old girl committed suicide almost a month after she was allegedly raped by a man from her village in Uttar Pradesh's Chitrakoot district, police said Friday.

She hanged herself from a ceiling fan in her room Thursday night in Pahadi area, Police Station Incharge Dinesh Singh said.

The girl was allegedly raped by a man from her village on December 15 last year. After her family lodged a complaint, an FIR was filed and the accused was arrested, Singh said.

The girl's family alleged that the accused and his family were threatening to set her ablaze if the case was not withdrawn, he said.

An FIR under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code had been registered and an investigation was underway, Singh said.             PTI


Banda, Oct 13 (PTI) A woman killed herself allegedly after tying the hands and legs of her four children and setting them ablaze following a dispute with her husband, police said Saturday.

Three of the children died and one child is battling for life, they said.

The incident took place Friday afternoon in Amgaav village in neighbouring Hamirpur district in the Raath Police Station area. 

Superintendent of Police (Hamirpur) Hemraj Meena said, "There was a dispute between Premwati alias Sukho (28) and her husband. After this, she tied hands and legs of her children Sapna (7), Prashant (5), Sneha (3) and Divyansh (1) and sprinkled kerosene on them and set them ablaze. After this she also set herself on fire." 

Meena said Divyansh died on the spot and Sapna died at the community health centre. Premwati, Prashant and Sneha were referred to Jhansi Medical College where Premwati and Sneha died, he said.

Prashant is currently undergoing treatment and is in a critical condition, he said.

The SP said the bodies were sent for post-mortem examination, and instructions were issued to probe the matter.


Banda (UP), Sep 5: A teenager was allegedly killed by his grandfather on suspicion of mobile theft in Bilgaon village in Bisanda area, the police said Wednesday.

Dayasagar (15) was badly beaten up by his grandfather Ram Suresh Tuesday on suspicion of mobile theft due to which he died this morning, SHO, Bisanda, Arvind Kumar Singh said.

An FIR was registered in this regard by the vicitm's mother after which the accused was arrested.

The mobile was later recovered under the pillow of the accused.

Banda (UP), Sep 3: A man has been booked for allegedly raping his 15-year-old cousin when she went to his house to celebrate Rakshabandhan in the Tindwari area here, police said Monday.

The girl on August 26, went to his 21-year-old cousin Mohit's house for tying Rakhi and he held her captive for two days and raped her, they said.

The FIR on the matter was registered Sunday on the complaint of family members, the police said.

Police are trying to arrest the accused who is absconding.

Banda (UP), Aug 3: A woman and her granddaughter were killed when the wall of house collapsed on them after rainfall in Pipri village of Banda district, police said today.

Kusum Sahu (50) and her 9-year-old granddaughter were trapped under the debris yesterday. After being pulled out, they were rushed to a hospital.

They died during treatment, police said.

Banda (UP), July 9: A woman has complained to police that she was given triple talaq and forced to leave her husband's house because the roti she had prepared got burnt.

The incident had happened in Pahretha village of Mahoba district and it came to light after the 24-year-old woman registered a complaint with the police yesterday, ASP Banshraj Yadav said.

On the basis of her complaint, a case of domestic violence will be registered the husband, he said.

The woman, who got married last year, also alleged that her husband had inflicted burn injuries on her with cigarettes three days before 'divorcing' her by way of triple talaq, the police said.

The Supreme Court had on August 22 last year struck down triple talaq, calling the practice unconstitutional and in violation of Article 14 of the Constitution, which provides for equality before the law.

Banda, Jun 20 : Two persons were killed when their car fell into a 200-metre deep stone mine in neighbouring Mahoba district, police said today.

Superintendent of Police of Mahoba district N Kolanchi said, "The accident took place yesterday when Sunil Chaurasia (32) was imparting driving skills to his nephew Himanshu (19).

"As Himanshu was learning to drive, he failed to negotiate a truck coming from the opposite direction. Subsequently, he lost control over the car, and it fell into a 200-metre deep stone mine."

While Himanshu died on the spot, Sunil succumbed to injuries on way to Jhansi.

A case has been registered and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem, police said. PTI
