Kathmandu, Apr 4: CPN-MC Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that there was no new agenda in Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s upcoming state visit of India.
Prime Minister Oli is scheduled to arrive in New Delhi on April 6.
Speaking at a function at Sharadanagar of Chitwan on Tuesday, CPN-MC Chair Dahal said the visit would be crucial in strengthening bilateral ties between the two neighbouring countries, a report in The Himalayan Times said on Wednesday.
Dahal argued that unification of the two parties could not conclude though they had claimed it would take place before PM Oli’s India visit due to lack of adequate homework.
He claimed that they would announce the unification date on April 22 as per the recommendation of the unification task force. “As it is unification between two communist forces, it won’t happen on the basis of their representation in the Parliament but would be based on respectful equality.
He underscored the necessity of economic policy incorporating public and private sectors and cooperatives for the prosperity of the country.
Laying the foundation stone of Bakhan National Cooperative Museum, Dahal pledged necessary budget for timely completion of the construction. It is said the museum will be completed in two years at a cost of Rs 90 million, of which Rs 50 million has been released from the State coffer. UNI

Kathmandu, Mar 30: Nepalese Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had wished to announce the merger of the two ruling communist allies before his maiden foreign visit after taking office last month but things are getting knottier as the unification process advances, a report in The Kathmandu Post reported on Friday.
With some major issues still unclear, leaders from the CPN-UML and the CPN (Maoist Centre) claimed that announcement of the merger before the PM’s planned departure for New Delhi on April 6 seems difficult.
“If everything is sorted by the meeting of the Party Unification Coordination Committee scheduled for April 2 and 3, the announcement is probable on April 4. But it’s difficult for the outstanding issues to be resolved in such a short period,” said senior Maoist Centre leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha, who is also a PUCC member.
Lately, all the Maoist Centre leaders have claimed unequivocally that the strength of the two parties in the latest polls should be no basis for the merger. They argue that the Maoists had emerged as the single largest party ten years ago.
Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said earlier this week that his party would not go for unification even if it got one member less than the UML.
At a political training for senior leaders of the party-aligned All Nepal National Independent Students Union Revolutionary in Sanothimi on Monday, Dahal said the new outfit would have 50-50 share from the two parties.
However, UML leaders point to the 60:40 sharing of candidates between the UML and the Maoist Centre in the federal and provincial elections held in November-December last year. The UML won 70 percent seats, which leaders of the larger ally cite to claim a greater share in the unified party. Some UML leaders, however, are okay with a 60:40 arrangement in new party committees as that was the basis for the electoral alliance.
The taskforce led by Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa has determined the size of the unified party committees but the PUCC would discuss the ratio of representation from the two parties.
The parties have yet to decide the election symbol for the new force as they press for their respective symbols—the UML’s ‘sun’ and the Maoist Centre’s ‘hammer and sickle inside a circle’.
As decided by the taskforce, the Communist Party of Nepal will have a 299-strong central committee, a 99-member politburo and a 33-member standing committee. The taskforce will submit its report to the PUCC for endorsement.
Another panel, led by Madhav Kumar Nepal, is giving finishing touches to the political document. However, Prime Minister’s Chief Political Advisor Bishnu Rimal said both the parties were working hard to announce the merger before Oli leaves for India but other UML leaders in the PUCC claimed that there was no connection between the visit and party unification. UNI

Kathmandu, Mar 12: Newly-elected Prime Minister of Nepal KP Sharma Oli has won the vote of confidence after he was supported by more than two-thirds of majority in Lower House of Nepal Parliament.
According to media reports here, in the voting that took place on Sunday evening, Mr Oli received 208 votes in his favour out of total 268.
The 66-year-old Mr Oli bagged 121 votes from CPN-UML, 52-CPN (Maoist Center), 16 each from Rashtriya Janta Party Nepal and Federal Socialist Forum Nepal and one each from Rastriya Janamorcha, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Nepal Workers Peasants Party and an independent lawmaker.
Mr Oli, appointed for the post of Prime Minister on February 15, has sought support in his favour from all parties.
According to newly framed Constitution of Nepal, for holding the office of Prime Minister, a person needs to have a support of two-thirds of majority of lower House and needs to win a confidence motion within six months from the date of appointment.

Kathmandu, Mar 5: Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s The Da-Bangg Tour to Nepal, which was scheduled to take place in Kathmandu on March 10, has been called off citing security reasons.
Other stars such as Sonakshi Sinha, Kriti Sanon, Prabhudheva, Daisy Shah, Meet Bros and Maniesh Paul were scheduled to join Khan at Tundikhel, Kathmandu, the media reports said here.
The treat came from a group led by Netra Bikram Chand, according to the organisers, a report in the Gulf News said.
The organisers Sohail Khan Entertainments and JA Events and the partner organiser from Nepal, ODC Entertainment, on January 19 had organised a press conference in Kathmandu to confirm Khan’s arrival.
However, Chand of the CPN-Maoist, a splinter of CPN (Maoist Centre), last week had demanded a cancellation of the show and called all the nationalist forces to unite and oppose the event saying it amounted to “expansion of cultural intervention on Nepali soil”.
Some top Nepalese artists and 110 other singers and dancers from Bollywood were also expected to be part of the show. An audience of 30,000 was expected to attend the show while the tickets were priced from Rs3,000 (Dh168) to Rs30,000. The cost of the show was reported to mount Rs50 million.
The tour, which kicked off last year, has already taken place in cities around the world, including Melbourne, Sydney, Auckland, London and Birmingham.
The organisers in Kathmandu said: “The show is just postponed for further dates and going to reschedule it very soon.”
The CPN-Maoist also attacked the sponsors of the show, most of them liquor brands. “In a way, the programme is also promoting liquor which is not acceptable to us. We are against all kinds of globalisation bids,” the statement said. UNI

Kathmandu, Feb 15: KP Sharma Oli on Thursday was sworn in as the 41st Prime Minister of Nepal.
This is his second term in the office.
The Himalayan Times reported that President Bidya Devi Bhandari administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly-elected Prime Minister in a function organised at President’s Office, Shital Niwas, in Maharajgunj this evening.
Oli was appointed to the top executive post in accordance with Article 76 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal. Oli is the 38th politician to head the government in modern Nepal.
President Bhandari appointed KP Sharma Oli to the post this afternoon. CPN-UML Standing Committee, with support from the CPN Maoist Centre, had put forth his name for the top executive position of the country on Wednesday. He is CPN-UML’s fourth leader to take the high office of Prime Minister since 1995.
To pave the way for Oli to lead the nation as Prime Minister, a meeting of the UML held in Singhadarbar this afternoon had unanimously appointed him as the Parliamentary Party (PP) leader.
Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, ministers including Sher Bahadur Deuba, Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhalanath Khanal, Subhash Nembang, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Onsari Gharti Magar, Kamal Thapa, ambassadors and other high level officials were present in the swearing-in ceremony.
Born to Mohan Prasad Oli and Madhu Oli on February 23, 1952, in Iwa of Terhathum district, CPN-UML Chairman Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli, commonly known as KP Sharma Oli, began his political career in 1966 AD.
He became involved in subversive politics and got the membership of the Communist Party of Nepal in January 1970.
He was elected a member of the Parliament thrice – in 1991, 1994 and 1999 – from various constituencies of Jhapa district.
He was also the Minister for Home Affairs in the Cabinet led by the then UML Chairman Man Mohan Adhikari in 1994.
Oli served as the nation’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs in Girija Prasad Koirala-led interim government formed immediately after the 2006 People’s Movement.
The 65-year-old leader was elected Chief of the CPN-UML in July 2014, defeating Madhav Kumar Nepal in the party’s ninth general convention.
In 2015, Oli became the 38th Prime Minister of the nation, defeating Nepali Congress the then President Sushil Koirala.
After 287 days as top executive of the nation, he had announced resignation in Parliament after CPN Maoist Centre Chair Pusha Kamal Dahal withdrew his support to Oli and joined forces with the then main-opposition Nepali Congress.
Dahal and Deuba had jointly brought in a no-confidence motion against Oli with a commitment to pull down the Oli-led government. But, to save himself from further humiliation, Oli announced resignation and paved way for Dahal to become the Prime Minister.
However, before the provincial and parliamentary elections, Oli-led party formed an electoral alliance with the CPN Maoist Centre and announced merger after polls to head country towards development.
The comfortable majority of the left alliance in the three-tier elections has paved way for KP Sharma Oli to become the 41st Prime Minister of Nepal. UNI
