Los Angeles, Mar 31 :  Oscar winner Anne Hathaway is set to topline "French Children Don't Throw Food", based on American journalist Pamela Druckerman's autobiographical account.

She noticed that French children were well-behaved and slept through the night by the time they were two or three months old.

The most recent draft of the adaptation was penned by Jamie Minoprio and Jonathan Stern.

StudioCanal is financing and is set to produce with Blueprint Picture.

Hathaway currently stars in Dee Rees' Netflix film "The Last Thing He Wanted" and will next be seen in Robert Zemeckis' "The Witches" remake set at Warner Bros studio.

Los Angeles, Mar 24 :  Broadway actor Aaron Tveit has tested positive for COVID-19.

The 36-year-old actor, who took to social media to share his diagnosis, said he is feeling much better now.

"I'm feeling much better. I consider myself extremely lucky that my symptoms have been very mild -- cold like with no fever -- as so many are experiencing much more serious symptoms, because this is a very dangerous virus, Tveit wrote on Instagram.

The actor said he had been quarantined since Broadway shows shut down on March 12 amid the pandemic.

One thing I have been experiencing is the loss of taste and smell, which I think is a big sign for people who are otherwise asymptotic, he added.

Tveit said he was tested earlier last week and found out the results this Monday, but had quarantined himself even before he went through the medical procedure.

This can affect anyone and even if you aren't feeling sick or showing drastic symptoms please take heed, stay safe, stay healthy and I hope to see everyone at the theater again soon, he said.

Tveit joins a growing list of celebrities that have tested positive for coronavirus, including Idris Elba, Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson, Kevin Durant, former Bond girl Olga Kurylenko, "Frozen 2" actor Rachel Matthews, Daniel Dae Kim, "Game of Thrones" star Kristofer Hivju, veteran Opera singer Placido Domingo and celebrated TV host Andy Cohen.

The coronavirus outbreak, that first emerged in Wuhan, China, has killed more than 16,000 people worldwide.

Los Angeles, Mar 23 :  In a bizarre video shot from her rose petal filled bathtub, pop star Madonna has called the coronavirus pandemic "a great equaliser".

The music icon said the virus doesn't discriminate between rich and poor.

That's the thing about COVID-1. It doesn't care about how rich you are, how famous you are, how funny you are, how smart you are, where you live, how old you are, what amazing stories you can tell.

It's the great equaliser and what's terrible about it is what's great about it. What's terrible about it is that it's made us all equal in many ways, and what's wonderful about is, is that it's made us all equal in many ways, Madonna said in the video while having a milky bath in tub full of roses.

The 61-year-old singer, who had to cancel two of her concerts in Paris due to coronavirus outbreak, also referenced her 1995 song Human Nature in the video saying we are all going down together .

According to the Johns Hopkins coronavirus tracker, the death toll from the virus globally has risen to 14,641 with 336,000 cases reported in 173 countries and territories.

Los Angeles, Feb 16 :  Denis Villeneuve's next directorial venture, "Dune", has officially got a release date.

Warner Bros has announced the film will be release in the US in 3D and IMAX on November 20, 2020, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film, based on Frank Herbert's bestselling novel of the same name, features a star-studded cast of Timothee Chalamet, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgard, Charlotte Rampling, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem and Jason Momoa.

Actor Oscar Isaac and "Spider-Man: Homecoming" star Zendaya are also in talks to board the film.

The story is set in the distant future and follows Paul Atreides (Chalamet), whose family assumes control of the desert planet Arrakis, also known as Dune.

After Paul and his family are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man's relationship to nature, as Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family's reign.

Ferguson will portray Atreides' mother, Lady Jessica, who escapes with him into the desert and helps him become a saviour in their eyes. Skarsgard will star as the evil Baron Harkonnen, and Bautista as the Baron's nephew.

Rampling will play the Reverend Mother Mohiam, the emperor's truthsayer, a person who can divine intentions, suss out lies and manipulate people's emotional states.

Filming is expected to start in spring in Budapest and Jordan.

Mary Parent, Cale Boyter and Villeneuve will produce the project while Thomas Tull will serve as the executive producer alongside Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert.

Herbert's novel was previously made into a film in 1984 by David Lynch but was a box office disappointment. Troubled by rewritings and the alleged meddling of the studio, Lynch had removed his name from the film.                PTI

New York, Aug 9: Son of a police chief in a Californian city is among two teenagers arrested and charged with attempted robbery and abuse in the brutal attack on a 71-year-old Sikh man this week.

The investigators are trying to determine if the attack was a hate crime.

Police arrested 18-year-old Tyrone McAllister and a 16-year-old male juvenile yesterday for the attack on Sahib Singh Natt on the side of a road early morning on August 6 in Manteca.

McAllister, the son of Union City Police Chief Darryl McAllister, and the juvenile have been charged with attempted robbery, elder abuse and assault with a deadly weapon.

The Manteca Police Department said it received numerous tips which assisted in the identification of the suspects.

Investigations Supervisor sergeant Miller said the public assistance in providing information with this case was instrumental in identifying the suspects and helped in making a quick arrest.

Meanwhile, McAllister's father posted a statement on the Facebook page of the Union City Police department saying he is completely disgusted to find out that one of the suspects in this horrific crime is his son.

He said his son has been estranged from his family and home for several months now.

Words can barely describe how embarrassed, dejected, and hurt my wife, daughters, and I feel right now. Violence and hatred is not what we have taught our children; intolerance for others is not even in our vocabulary, let alone our values," the senior McAllister said in the statement.

He said it is difficult for his family to comprehend how one of his three kids, raised with the same values and character, wandered so far astray.

In the eyes of the public, no matter the irrelevance to the incident, the fact remains that the father of the perpetrator of this despicable crime is a police chief, period , he said.

Disturbing footage from a surveillance camera shows Natt walking alone on the side of a road early morning on August 6 when two men, wearing hoodies, walking from the opposite direction approach him.

Natt stops on seeing the men and the duo are seen talking to him. Natt then walks past them but they continue to follow and talk with him.

After a brief argument, one of the men, who is wearing a black hoodie, suddenly kicks Natt in the stomach and the elderly man falls down on the road, with his turban coming off.

He tries to get up and defend himself but the man again kicks him in the stomach. Natt falls on the road as the man who attacked him comes close to him and appears to touch his face and spit on him. They then walk away as Natt is lying on the road.

A few seconds later the man in the black hoodie runs back and viciously kicks Natt three times near his head as he lay on the street. He then starts leaving again, pauses, turns around, and then spits at Natt.

The police chief said his stomach has been churning from the moment he learned the news of the attack on Natt and that his son was involved.

He also said his son began to lose his way a couple years ago, while he was a juvenile, running away and getting involved in a bad crowd.

He got into trouble for some theft-related crimes and ended up spending several months in juvenile hall, the senior McAllister said, adding that his son was again arrested for a theft-related incident, and he ended up spending another three months in adult jail as a result.

"Since being released he has been wayward and has not returned to our family home for several months," he said.

The police chief said he and his wife worked with Manteca Police to help them track their son down and arrest him.

The attack on Natt is the second on a Sikh man in about a week in California.

On July 31, 50-year-old Surjit Malhi was attacked while putting up campaign signs in support of incumbent Republican Congressman Jeff Denham and other local Republican candidates.

While beating Malhi, the attackers yelled "Go back to your country! and spray painted the same message, along with hate symbols, on his truck.

Sikh advocacy group The Sikh Coalition has urged members of the community to remain vigilant and report cases of bias, bigotry and backlash in the wake of the attacks.

We are deeply troubled by these two recent attacks and strongly encourage increased vigilance nationwide as we work to support the Central Valley, CA community during this difficult time, Sikh Coalition legal director Amrith Kaur said.

If you or someone you know has experienced a potential hate crime, please reach out to our team. We have a seasoned team of lawyers who can provide free legal advice and support you through the process to protect your rights, she added.

The California chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CA) also condemned the attack on Natt.

"We stand in solidarity with the Sikh community against the bigotry and racism that fuels hate crimes like this one nationwide. These kinds of incidents are becoming increasingly common under the Trump administration and are direct attacks on religious liberty in the United States, CAIR-Sacramento Valley's executive director Basim Elkarra said.

In the past, CAIR had stood in solidarity with communities of various faiths and backgrounds that are subject to similar hate crimes.

PALMDALE, Calif., May 12: A 14-year-old boy shot and wounded a student at a Southern California high school on Friday before fleeing the scene and being arrested at a supermarket by an off-duty police officer, law enforcement officials said.
The victim, a 15-year-old student at Highland High School in Palmdale, about 60 miles (96 km) north of Los Angeles, was listed in stable condition at a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm and shoulder area, Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim McDonnell told a news conference.
Officials had initially said the victim was 14 years old.
The suspect, a former student at Highland High School, was taken into custody at a supermarket by an off-duty Los Angeles police officer after the boy called his father to tell him that he had fired a gun into the air, McDonnell said.
The suspect was expected to face attempted murder charges, McDonnell added. The weapon used, an SKS rifle, was found discarded in a field, McDonnell said.
Law enforcement officials did not offer a motive for the incident, which took place at about 7 a.m.
The sheriff's department on its Twitter account called it an "isolated shooting."
The shooting prompted an immediate lockdown at the school.
"We are incredibly grateful for the actions of Highland High School teachers and staff and our first responders who courageously protected the lives of our students today," Brett Neal, an assistant superintendent for the school district, said in a statement. "We know that every second is important in a situation like this and we couldn't be more thankful."
Initial reports of a possible school mass shooting drew immediate attention from major news outlets and cable TV networks. It underscored the national debate over gun control and gun rights that intensified after the February shooting deaths of 17 students and staff members at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

San Francisco, Jan 10: At least 13 people are dead amid "waist-deep" mudslides in Southern California, where heavy rains triggered flooding, say officials.
Some 163 people have been taken to hospital. Twenty had "storm-related injuries" and four were critically hurt, the BBC News reported on Wednesday.
A group of up to 300 people are reportedly trapped in Romero Canyon, east of Santa Barbara.
Police said the scene "looked like a World War One battlefield".
The flooding and mudslides, affecting areas scorched by wildfires last month, have shut down more than 30 miles (48km) of the main coastal highway.
Emergency services said a number of people are unaccounted for and they expect the death toll to rise.
Thousands fled the deluge and more than 50 rescues have been performed.
The hardest hit homes were those that were not in the evacuation zone, officials say.
Heavy rain run-off caused mudflow in the community of Montecito, where some homes were knocked from their foundations, said Santa Barbara County Fire Department spokesman Mike Eliason.
Boulders the size of small cars were rolling down hillsides and blocking roads, reports BBC News Los Angeles correspondent James Cook.
Among those taken to safety was a 14-year-old girl who had been trapped for hours in the ruins of her home.
The fire department published a picture of the girl encased in mud as she was led to safety.
County Fire Captain Dave Zaniboni said that five people were found dead on Tuesday in Montecito and may have been killed as result of the storm.
The upmarket neighbourhood includes homes owned by celebrities such as actor Rob Lowe and chat show host Ellen DeGeneres.
The US Coast Guard has sent "multiple airships to support rescue operations" and warn the public not to fly drones, otherwise the flights will force to be grounded.
Wildfires in December, including the Thomas Fire, swept through the area burning vegetation that helps prevent flooding and landslides.
Thousands of California residents were asked to evacuate on Monday for the second time in two months.
In Burbank, where waves of mud swept away vehicles, officials issued a mandatory evacuation order.
Several roads are closed due to mudslides and debris, including the major thoroughfare Highway 101.
After a wildfire, burned vegetation and charred soil create a water repellent layer which blocks water absorption and leads to an increased risk of mudslides and floods.
"Recent burn areas will be especially vulnerable where dangerous mud and debris flows are possible," said the National Weather Service in a statement.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency shared a warning for California homeowners explaining that homes that had never flooded before were now at risk.
The storm over California is expected to produce 4 inches to 7 inches (10 to 18 cm) in the foothills and 9in (23cm) in select areas. Snow is falling at higher elevations, according to the National Weather Service. UNI

San Francisco, Dec 7: Firefighters tackling a fast-moving wildfire in southern California have said the blaze has jumped the main coastal highway and reached the Pacific Ocean, US media reports said.
The fire, which ripped through Ventura County north of Los Angeles, triggered evacuation orders for some 150,000 people and has damaged 150 buildings, the BBC News added.
Authorities say some 12,000 structures remain threatened by the fire.
Strong winds are expected to further hinder efforts to contain the blaze.
"We are still in the middle of an aggressive and active firefight on the ground," a spokesman for the Ventura fire department, Robert Welsbie, said.
"If the winds pick up, we will face quite a challenge."
Fire officials said a quarter of a million homes were without power and they feared many more buildings would be destroyed.
It was revealed on Wednesday that the fire had crossed Highway 101, reaching the Solimar Beach area.
The road remains open but local officials have told motorists to take care.
More than 1,000 firefighters have been battling the fires in the cities of Ventura and Santa Paula, some 70 miles (115km) north of Los Angeles.
Residents of Santa Paula and Ventura received mandatory evacuation notices on their phones and from emergency workers going house to house.
The blaze, which has devastated more than 55,000 acres (22,000 ha), continues to be fanned by ferocious Santa Ana winds - which blow in from the California desert - and low humidity.
Winds are forecast reach up to 70mph (115km/h) on Wednesday and remain strong throughout the week.
One eyewitness in Ventura, Robin Andersen, said an area south of Highway 101 "looked like Armageddon", the LA Times reports.
"I sat facing the fires, and it was like watching Rome burn," Mr Andersen said.
Others took to social media to share images and footage of the fire as it spread across roads and motorways, warning drivers to avoid the area. UNI
