Jammu, Apr 2 :  Seven Pakistani posts across the LoC were destroyed as the Indian Army retaliated to cross border shelling by Pakistani troops who targeted border areas in Rajouri and Poonch districts, officials said Tuesday.

There have been several casualties to Pakistani troops too, they said.

As a precautionary measure, all schools along the borderline in Poonch and Rajouri districts have been closed by authorities in view of the Pakistani shelling.

On Monday, a BSF inspector and a five-year-old girl were among three persons killed while 24 others were injured as Pakistani troops heavily shelled forward areas along the Line of Control in Poonch district, prompting the Indian Army to retaliate "befittingly", said officials.

There was heavy mortar shelling and firing along LOC in Poonch district and Nowshera sector of Rajouri district till Tuesday morning", officials said.

There was also firing and shelling by Pakistan troops in Shahpur sub-sector in Poonch and Nowshera on Tuesday, they said.

In the retaliation carried out by Indian troops, seven Pakistan posts across the LoC in Rakhchikri and Rawalakote forward areas of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) were destroyed, they said adding there have been several causalities on the Pakistan side.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) of Pakistan has said three Pakistan Army soldiers were killed on Tuesday in retaliation carried out by Indian forces along the Line of Control (LoC). 

Pakistan has been using heavy weaponry and 120 mm mortar bombs to target civilian areas along the LoC in Poonch, triggering panic among villagers, they said.

Amid the ongoing shelling by Pakistan, people have been advised to stay indoors, the officials said.

Srinagar, Sep 12 : Five Army men and a civilian were injured Wednesday in a road accident in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.
The accident took place as a passenger bus hit an Army vehicle in Tangmarg area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district this morning, a police official said.
The injured have been taken to a hospital, the official said.PTI



Bhadarwah (J-K), Aug 25: Continuing its efforts to extend a helping hand to the needy, the Army distributed 200 more solar lights among the nomadic communities living in the high altitude areas here in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Army's Rashtriya Rifles unit based in Bhadarwah has so far distributed over 17,000 such lights among the Gujjars and Bakerwals under its 'Project Roshni'(light).

In the latest initiative, the troops distributed 200 solar lights among the floating population residing in 'Dhoks' (mud houses) on high altitude meadows, including Naag lootan, Padri, Bhal Padri, Qatari, Machora, Satlad, Biddi, Qatari Gali, Chipli and Bashot of Bhaderwah Valley, an Army officer told.

He said troops of the four Rashtriya Rifles led by second-in-command Major Ambresh Mahanta after trekking nine Kilometres reached Satlad meadow, 49 km from Bhadarwah town, to distribute 90 solar lights among the people, followed by distribution of 110 lights at Bhal Padri meadow this week.

Village head and imam of Jamia Masjid in Bhal Padri, Choudhary Sadiq, said this gesture of the Army would go a long way in cementing the bond between the tribes and the forces.

About 30,000 Gujjar and Bakerwal people migrate to the high altitude meadows of the region and dwell there for summer months.

Srinagar, May 29 :  Army today paid tribute to Sepoy Vikram Singh killed in a militant attack in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on May 27.

In a solemn ceremony at Badamibagh cantonment here, Corps Commander Lt Gen A K Bhatt and all ranks paid homage to the martyr on behalf of a proud nation, a defence spokesman said.

In a show of solidarity, representatives from other security agencies also joined in paying their last respects to the martyr, he said.

Sepoy Vikram Singh (25) belonged to Ladpur village in Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh. He had joined the forces in 2013. He is survived by his wife.

He sustained bullet injury during a "cowardly and provocative standoff attack" by the militants on Kakapore Army camp in Pulwama district, the spokesman said.

The soldier was provided immediate first aid and evacuated to 92 Base Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.

"The mortal remains of the martyr were flown for last rites to his native place, where he would be laid to rest with full military honours," the spokesman said, adding the Army stands in solidarity with the bereaved family and remains committed to their dignity and well being. PTI

Srinagar, Apr 27 : Lauding the troops for their steadfastness and high morale and dedication, the Northern Army Commander (NAC) Lt General D Anbu on Friday reviewed the overall security situation in the Kashmir valley.
He also reviewed the operational preparedness in the Valley, a defence ministry spokesman on official account of Northern Command twitter this evening said “#IndianArmy #ArmyCdrNC reviewed security situation & operational preparedness in Kashmir Valley. The Army Cdr lauded all ranks for their steadfastness, high morale & dedication”.
Meanwhile, defence sources said Lt Gen Anbu was given a detailed brief about the overall security situation in the Kashmir Valley, where a soldier deserted his unit and joined Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militant outfit while a police constable went missing along with his service weapon from Badgam district recently. A number of rifle snatching incident were also reported in the Valley.
They said a number of senior Army and police officers have expressed their concern over Kashmiri youths joining militancy in the Valley.UNI


New Delhi, Feb 24: Indian Army and the Seychelles People's Defence Force on Saturday began their eighth edition of military exercise at Mahe Island in the archipelago with an aim to fighting insurgency, terrorism and piracy threats.
The Seychelles archipelago falls on one of the most significant sea routes in the world.
The exercise, called “Lamitye”, which means friendship in Creole, will conclude on March 4.
Earlier, Colonel Rajesh Bisht, Military Advisor to Seychelles Peoples' Defence Force and Leader of Indian Army Training team paid courtesy call on Ambassador Barry Faure, Secretary of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Seychelles, Brig Leopold Payet, Chief of Defence Forces SPDF and Ausaaf Sayeed, High Commissioner of India in the Seychelles, the Indian Army Spokesperson said.
The Indian team is comprised of 45 personnel, including four officers, five Junior Commissioned Officers and 36 Other Ranks.
Both the Armies have been holding training exercises since 2001 in an effort to enhance military cooperation and interoperability between themselves. UNI


New Delhi, Jan 15: The Indian Army is all set to celebrate 70th Army Day, with parades and shows at its major locations across the country on Monday.
The celebration marks the day Field Marshal K M Cariappa took over as the first Indian chief of the nation's Army in 1949.
Army chief General Bipin Rawat will review the parade here.
He will also present the gallantry and other awards to his personnel. UNI

New Delhi, Oct 25: Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre said that the significance of indigenisation must be fully absorbed by all stakeholders and implement ‘Make in India’ in all future acquisition programmes. Speaking at an event organised by FICCI on ‘Indigenous Technological Empowerment of the Indian Army’, Dr Bhamre said, “The quest for indigenisation must be the foremost concern of any organisation as it is even more important in Defence sector as it leads to self-reliance which is critical to national security.” He appreciated that the Indian Army has not only organised a series of initiatives towards this objective, but also created the Army Design Bureau, which is a unique organisation to facilitate interaction and seek participation of the Indian industry and the academic community. The minister mentioned that the government in the recent past launched several initiatives to develop technologies in niche sectors like defence and aerospace. Dr Bhamre said the government has put defence at the core of its ‘Make in India’ programme and further stated that various companies are expressing their willingness to invest in India by utilizing the country’s highly talented and skilled manpower.
