Minister assures to achieve improved power scenario
JAMMU, JUNE 02: Minister for Power Development Department Sunil Sharma today reiterated the Government’s   commitment to improve power scenario in the state and said that augmentation of the infrastructure will be intensified in the coming days.
Talking to reporters here at a press conference, the Minister informed that power infra augmentation work is being speeded up from this month as tender process for pending works has been completed.
The government is spending crores of rupees on power sector he said adding “The Centre Government has shown keen interest in augmentation of power sector of the state and has released Rs 8000 Crore for the same.”  He said that the cumbersome tendering process caused delay but now the pending works will be speeded up starting with Udhampur district from June 6, 2018.
He anticipated cooperation and patience from the public and expressed hope that augmentation work will be completed in a stipulated time.
He said that due to increase in temperature in   Jammu region the common masses are suffering a lot on account of power shortage. Minister stated that around 650 MVA power is required in Jammu region and the supply is 500 MVA, resulting in power curtailment.
Minister acknowledged that the present infrastructure is not capable of providing the power supply consistently and hence needs to be augmented for tapping the full potential.
On the issue of power thefts and unnecessary use of power, the minister stressed that the power needs to be used judiciously. He said that the department is initiating a strict surveillance against power thefts and the corruption within the department shall not be spared at any cost.
The Minister further said that, three to four Grid Stations of Jammu city are going to be upgraded soon adding that the Canal Grid Station with the capacity of 50 MVA has been already installed. He said that 20- MVA additional transformer will be commissioned at Janipur Grid and Barn to Janipur line is in process of augmentation. He said that 3 Receiving Stations at Hakkal, Jawala & Barnai will be inaugurated on   June 3.
The Minister said that unnecessary shutdown will be avoided but the necessary shutdown for augmentation and strengthening shall be taken accordingly.
The Minister assured that all the remedial measures shall be taken well in time to provide un-interrupted power supply in Jammu.
Commissioner Secretary JKPDD Hirdesh Kumar Singh, Chief Engineer, Electric M&RE Wing, Jammu Ashwani Gupta, Chief Engineer, System & Operation Wing, Jammu Avinash Dubey and other senior officers of the department were present in the press conference.

KARGIL, JUNE 01: Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor Kargil, Kacho Ahmad Ali Khan, today held a meeting with a team of scientists from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) who were on a seven-day visit of Kargil and Leh districts in connection with the establishment of ultra mega solar power projects in the twin districts.
Executive Councilor for Rural Development Aga Syed Hassan Armaan Mosavi, Executive Councilor for Health Muhammad Hussain, Deputy Commissioner Kargil Vikas Kundal, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil Imteeaz Kacho, Project Director KREDA Kacho Ahmad Khan, representatives of KREDA and Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department (JKPDD) were also present in the meeting.
During the meeting, the team informed the CEC that as per the MoU signed between the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and Science and Technology Ministry of Jammu and Kashmir in 2014, 2500 Mega Watt solar power project is to be established in Kargil and 5000 Mega Watt in Leh district.
The team members apprised the meeting that during their recent survey in the district an overall assessment with regard to the availability and feasibility of land, grid position, line position and other aspects have been made at Tai Suru, Padum and Lungnaq areas of Zanskar Sub Division which has flat as well as slanted patches of land facing south direction with minimal shadow issues and quite ideal for establishment of mega solar power plants.
It was given out in the meeting that 8 kms land stretch at Zangla, 2 kms at Tsazar, 4 kms at Shanak Thang Tsazar, 7 kms from Stongday to Tsazar, 2 kms at Tambuk Thang Zangla, 4x4 kms stretch from Haftal to Salapi, 8 kms from Karsha to Rinam and 8 kms stretch at Ufti Thang has been identified by the team for setting up of varied capacities of solar plants.
Moreover, patches of land measuring 18 kms from Tashi Stongday to Shaqqar at Rangdum, 6 kms from Shaqqar to Shafat and 12 kms from Kuru to Kargyak have also been identified, the team members said.
The CEC while expressing his gratitude to the team to have conducted a thorough survey of the potential areas in the district assured them all out help from the Hill Council for the establishment of the solar power plants in the district.
He expressed hope that the establishment of these solar plants will go a long way in making the district self-sufficient in terms of power requirements.
Kacho directed the team to furnish the details of the identified land stretches to the Deputy Commissioner Kargil so as to examine their ownership status.
While stressing upon the team to incorporate local requirements and aspirations during the formulation of the solar projects, he suggested for working out timelines for proper execution and completion in a time bound manner with a focus on compensatory landscaping and employment opportunities to the locals.
Issues with regard to the provision of power from the projects in the district as well as evacuation of power to other parts of the state and country also came up for discussion.
The CEC also stressed on the early start of work on the 7 MW Solar Power Project under PMDP for which land measuring 200 kanals has already been transferred to KREDA.
Scientist-C MNRE Anindya S Parera, Assistant Director Central Electricity Authority (CEA) Vikas Sachan, DGM Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) Tarun Bajaj, Executive Director North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCL) Rajat Chandra Samrah, Manager Projects Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) Debajyoti Bordoloi, Project Director Ladakh Renewable Energy Development Agency (LREDA) Tsewang Thinlas and other concerned officers were also present in the meeting.


Rs 2.27 cr project to benefit 60,000 souls

JAMMU, MARCH 27: Speaker Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta today undertook inspection of ongoing works for setting up of 33/11 KV 1x10 MVA New Receiving Sub-Station for Gandhi Nagar area.
The works are being executed by JKPDD at an estimated cost of Rs 2.27 crore under the Restructured Accelerated Power Development & Reforms Programme (R-APDRP).
During his visit, the Speaker was informed that the works on the project are being executed at a steady pace with works on Sub structures nearing completion. Besides, superstructure along with transformer and others material will also be installed as per schedule, in a timely manner. He was further informed that the works under the project are being executed on mission mode and are expected to be completed within the stipulated timeframe.
Taking note of the progress made on the project, the Speaker said that works on the new substation for Gandhi Nagar area will go a long way in strengthening the existing power transmission systems and benefit over 60,000 souls residing in the area.
Urging the concerned agencies to ensure time bound and effective implementation of this project, Kavinder said that the new substation will also decrease the load on existing stations catering to the area and substantially reduce overloading problems like power fluctuations and breakdowns.
The Speaker also asked the concerned to ensure thorough testing of all aspects of the project on completion and before commissioning it for use in the area.
Superintendent Engineer Sunil Gupta, Executive Engineer P D Singh Jamwal and other officers accompanied the Speaker.
