Kolkata, Oct 3: A fire broke out in the dispensary of the state-run Medical College and Hospital here Wednesday, fire officials said.

Patients were evacuated from the top floor of the building as a precautionary measure, they said.

No one has been injured in the the blaze that broke out at 8 am in the dispensary located on the ground floor. Ten fire tenders have been engaged for taming the fire, the officials said.

Thick smoke was seen billowing from the ground floor of the hospital's main building where the dispensary is housed.

A senior fire official said the fire has been brought under control.

A disaster management team of the Kolkata Police, fire officials and senior officials are on the spot.

"I have been told that patients have been evacuated. We are looking into the incident," Mayor Sovan Chattopadhyay said. (PTI)

Kolkata, Mar 10: Around 700 additional MBBS seats will be created by setting up seven more medical colleges in the state.
The construction of five of these is going on in full swing while that of two others will begin soon.
The five under construction are in Cooch Behar, Raiganj, Rampurhat, Purulia and Diamond Harbour while the other two will come up in Jalpaiguri and Arambagh. 
Since 2011 the numbers of state-run medical colleges has increased to 14.
Out of the 42 proposed super-speciality hospitals, 39 are already functioning, adding that they have been of immense help to the people in the rural parts of the state.
Further, as many as 17,925 doctors have been recruited in the past six years.
The planned budget for the health sector has been increased to Rs 8,773.52 crore during the financial year 2018-19, from Rs 7,603.82 crore during 2017-18. 
The budget for drugs and medical equipment, part of the total budget, was Rs 857.83 crore during 2017-18, up from Rs 179 crore during 2010-11. UNI

        SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 3: The Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti today accorded sanction to the creation of 3375 posts of various categories for five Medical Colleges including creation of 2025 posts Medical College at Rajouri, Baramulla and Anantnag and creation of 1350 posts to be operative in the financial year 2018-19 for Medical College, Kathua and Doda once they are established/sanctioned by the competent Authority.
        These posts shall also be strictly as per the MCI guidelines of 675 posts per Medical College each as proposed by the department.
        The Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, convened a meeting of Technical Evaluation Committee (TEC) at New Delhi on 15th of January, 2016 and 5th  June 2017 has approved Medical College Anantnag, Baramulla, Rajouri, Kathua and Doda and also during 2016-17 & 2017-18, Rs.19203 Crore (Central Share) has been released for execution of these 05 new Medical Colleges. Besides, an amount of Rs 5.70 Crore (State Share) has also been released under Capex Budget during 2016-17 and 2017-18 for the purpose.
        PW(R&B) Department and JKPCC has been engaged as executing agencies or for these Medical Colleges. The construction work of Medical College at Anantnag, Baramulla and Rajouri is under progress, however, in respect of Medical College at Doda & Kathua, PW (R&B) Department is in the process of floating tenders for starting of construction work.
        In the 1st phase, out of 05 new Medical Colleges, 03 are likely to be complete during 2018-19, subject to the availability of funds from Government of India.
        The department is planning to start first batch of 100 MBBS seats per medical college by 2019. Besides, the remaining 02 medical colleges shall be made functional during the corresponding year.

        With the establishment/functioning of these new Medical Colleges in the State, the health care facilities will drastically come at par with the norms and guideline Medical Council of India (MCI) as well as intake capacity for Medical (MBBS)/Paramedical courses will also increase.
