Sitamarhi/Muzaffarpur (Bihar), Jan 13 :  Two persons were killed and 34 others injured after a tourist bus carrying them collided head-on with a truck in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district on Saturday, police said.

The incident happened on the Sitamarhi-Muzaffarpur road (NH-77) near Bhanaspatti village under the jurisdiction of Runnisaidpur police station, when the bus was travelling from Uttarakhand to Gaya via Muzaffarpur, the police said.

The passengers had offered prayers at Janki temple in Sitamarhi, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Sitamarhi Sadar, Kumar Veer Dhirendra, said.

All the passengers had come from Uttarakhand, the DSP said.

All the 34 injured were taken to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) in Muzaffarpur, the District Magistrate (DM) of Muzaffarpur, Mohammad Sohail, said.

While 19 persons were admitted to the hospital, 15 others were being treated at the hospital's out patient department (OPD), the DM said.

One among the 19 admitted was shifted to the ICU of the hospital, he said.

The driver of the bus and a woman died in the accident, the DM said.

The woman has been as Rukmini Devi, he added.

The collision was so massive that the front portions of both the bus and the truck have been badly damaged, a police officer said.                PTI

Sheohar, Sep 8: A hardcore naxalite, wanted in connection with at least 24 cases, was arrested from the borders of Sheohar and Muzaffarpur districts in Bihar on Saturday.

Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar said that the operation to arrest the naxalite, belonging to the proscribed CPI(Maoist), was jointly carried out by the Special Task Force (STF) and the district police.

The self-styled naxal 'zonal commander' has been identified as Lalbabu Sahni alias Bhaskar alias Pralay, a resident of Koriya village under Madhuban police station of East Champaran district, the SP said.

Over 24 naxal-related cases are lodged against him in various police stations of Sheohar, Muzaffarpur, East Champaran and Sitamarhi districts, the SP said.

The police described the arrest as a big achievement as Sahni was evading the police dragnet for the past couple of years.

Muzaffarnagar, Jun 23 : Nine people were injured in a clash between two groups over music played by the DJ at a wedding, police said.

The incident took place last night in Chandheri village which comes under the jurisdiction of Budhana police station.

At least 16 people were arrested and 21 others were booked, said Circle Officer Hariram Yadav.

A case was registered under sections 147, 148, 307, 332, 353 186, 504 and 506 of the IPC, he said.   PTI



Muzaffarpur (Bihar), Jun 8: Altogether 550 cartons of India Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) were seized from a truck by excise officials in Muzaffarpur district today, an official said.
Acting on a tip off, an excise department team raided Marwan village and seized the liquor valued about Rs one crore from a truck this morning, Excise Superintendent Deenbandhu said.
The cartons were kept under several bags carrying potatoes, he said.
The team arrested the driver and the cleaner of the vehicle.
As per the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act 2016, if any person imports, transports, manufactures, possesses, stores liquor, he shall be punished with minimum imprisonment of eight years which may extend up to 10 years besides fine which may extend to Rs 10 lakh.

Muzaffarpur, Mar 08: At least 7 members of a marriage party were killed and as many injured when their van had a head on collision with an oil tanker on National Highway 28 at Keshavpur Hat under Sakra police station area in the district in the wee hours today.
Police said that five people died on the spot while two others breathed their last during treatment at Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital here. Sources said that the injured had been admitted to different hospitals in the district.
Police said that local people infuriated over the accident blocked the National Highway 28 at the spot. The road blockade was lifted following the intervention by senior civil and police authorities. UNI



Muzaffarpur, Feb 24: At least 9 school children were killed and more than 20 others injured when a speeding vehicle hit them under Meenapur police station area in this district today.
Confirming the incident, police superintendent Vivek Kumar said here that the vehicle hit the children when its driver apparently lost control over his vehicle due to high speed. 
Sources said the mishap took place when children were crossing a road. 
Sources said that children were returning to their residences after their classes were over at Dharmpur primary school.
Police said the injured had been admitted to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital. UNI
