Call of duty: Noida Traffic cop goes out of way to help stranded women reach home

Noida (UP), Oct 12 (PTI) A Noida Traffic policeman went out of his way to help a woman and her daughter, stranded on a lonely road here at night, after their car's tyres got punctured.

Constable Deepak Kumar (30) got a mechanic to have the punctures in both the rear tyres fixed and even offered a spare kept in his vehicle.

When it was found that only one of the punctured rear tyres could be repaired, and the spare wheel in the woman's car could not be used, he gave the spare from his vehicle.

Kumar, later, escorted the women till their locality in Greater Noida, ensuring their safety.

In a letter to the Traffic Police, retired Army officer V P Sharma conveyed his gratitude to the policeman, thanking him for helping his daughter and granddaughter, who got stranded while returning to Greater Noida after visiting him at a hospital.

Colonel (retd) Sharma said he was hospitalised in Noida after a minor surgery when his daughter (46) and granddaughter (21) visited to see him on October 6.

They left for Greater Noida around 8 pm but after around 15 minutes they lost their way and landed up on a lonely road with many potholes, he said, adding that his granddaughter who was driving the car realised that the vehicle was "not going straight".

"She stopped the car, got down and noticed that both the rear wheels had punctures. They were scared and stood by the side of the vehicle. A number of people passed by but no one stopped," Sharma said in a letter to the Traffic Police.

Soon, Constable Kumar, who happened to be passing by from there stopped and offered assistance, saying he was from the Uttar Pradesh Traffic Police Department.

"After confirming that both the tyres were tubeless, Kumar went in his own transport and brought a man who could fix the punctures. They then realised that only one tyre could be repaired. They tried the spare tyre but that too happened to be unserviceable.

"He offered the spare wheel from his own vehicle and after ensuring that everything was okay, he guided them right up to their colony in Greater Noida," Sharma wrote.

Saying that he was "totally impressed" by Kumar's "dedication to duty", the Army veteran recommended special recognition and reward for the official who went "out of the way to help two stranded ladies on a lonely Noida road".

Family alleges negligence by pvt hospital led to 3-yr-old child's death

Noida (UP), Oct 9 (PTI) A family from Delhi Tuesday accused a private hospital here of negligence in treatment which resulted in the death of their three-year-old child, police said.

In a complaint at the Sector 20 police station, the family, residing in New Ashok Nagar, Delhi, said they had taken the child to the Apollo Hospitals in Sector 26, Noida, after he complained of stomach ache and fever on September 7.

Diwakar Prasad Singh, the maternal uncle of the child, told PTI that the hospital suggested that the child be kept under observation for two days.

"During this period, multiple tests including ultrasound were done but nothing critical was reported. But they were negligent in the use of the needle during treatment which led to the deterioration of his health," he said, and alleged that the child was left thirsty for a long time in the hospital.

Claiming negligence in administering injections to the boy, Singh said when the situation worsened, the doctors suggested that child be shifted to the Apollo Hospitals in Jasola, Delhi.

"The hospital in Sector 26 did not have ventilator facility so they suggested the move," Singh, a consultant in Information Technology sector, claimed.

He said for the next two days the doctors could not specify what was wrong with the child and then the family decided to shift him to Ram Manohar Lohiya (RML) Hospital in Delhi, where he passed away.

Apollo Hospitals, however, said the family decided to shift the patient to another facility against their advice.

"The child was admitted at our Noida facility and given the condition subsequently transferred to Delhi for management. The family decided to shift the patient to another facility against our medical advice. We condole the passing away of the child and express our emotional solidarity with the family," the hospital said in a statement to PTI.

The child's uncle said they had first approached the police in Delhi and were then told to make a complaint in Noida because the hospital where they first took the child is here.

The Noida police said the family reached them Tuesday with their complaint and the matter has been referred to the chief medical officer of the district hospital for probe.

"In such cases, the matter is first referred to the district hospital where a medical committee determines if the hospital is at fault," Inspector Manoj Kumar Pant, in charge of the Sector 20 police station, told PTI.

"We will also submit a report after a preliminary probe," he added.

Sharda University clash: District admin discusses issue with varsity management

Noida (UP), Oct 5: The Gautam Buddh Nagar administration held a meeting with the Sharda University management Friday to discuss the fight that broke out on its campus in Greater Noida between groups of Indian and Afghan students, officials said.

Over 350 students, including Indians and Afghans, were booked for rioting and related offences after the clash during which a student from Kashmir got roughed up.

Thursday's incident followed a scuffle on Monday, the purported video of which had surfaced on social media.

Three Afghan students were suspended over the Monday scuffle and the university had announced shutting classes till Sunday, while the mid-term was examinations deferred, according to officials.

District Magistrate Brajesh Narain Singh said the Sharda University management has been asked to bring the two confronting sides to the table and ensure dialogue between them in order to defuse the tension.

India and Afghanistan are friendly countries. The university officials have been asked to get the students from both sides to talk so that cordial relations can be restored among them.

"They have been told to tell the students to concentrate on their studies and focus on upcoming examinations, Singh told.

The administration has also asked the university to restrict entry of outsiders, particularly those making communal statements and inflammatory remarks , he said.

Referring to the purported videos being circulated on social media related to incident at the university, Singh said police would be asked to put a check on people indulging in making such comments.

Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal and former chief ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah also expressed concern over the incident in western Uttar Pradesh's Greater Noida and sought action from the Centre and the state government.

The governor spoke to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Friday morning and urged him to ensure that Kashmiri students are provided a safe and secure environment in the educational institutions of the state, an official spokesperson said.

Mufti tweeted, Urge PMO India, (UP chief minister) Yogi Adityanath and (Union Home Minister) Rajnath Singh ji to take strict action against the culprits and ensure safety of students from J&K."

This requires a proper and impartial investigation. Let the facts be brought out and the guilty persons punished. I hope (Union Home minister) Rajnath Singh and (the) Home Ministry will direct the UP government and Noida Police to reassure the students while the investigation proceeds, Abdullah tweeted.

A police official Thursday told PTI that no official complaint was lodged about the clash in which one Indian student from Kashmir suffered injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Police force was deployed outside the university along with security personnel of the PAC. The university had also stepped up security on its premises and denied entry to outsiders, including the press.

The police have taken the cognisance of the case on its own. The Indian student has suffered minor injuries, more of punches and slaps, but was sent for medical examination so that it could be checked if there is any internal injury or not, the official had said.

We have booked 350-400 students, Indians and Afghans both, and we are probing the matter. Students are being identified on the basis of the footage that has surfaced and we will soon quiz them and initiate action, he added.

The official said the case was registered under Indian Penal Code sections 147 (punishment for rioting), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (assault or criminal force otherwise than on grave provocation), and related offences.

The FIR was registered at the Knowledge Park police station.

Police have also charged the students under the Section 7 of The Criminal Law Amendment Act, 1932, which pertains to any act that impedes another person from doing what they can rightfully do, using intimidation, he said. (PTI)

Over 3,500 ltr illicit liquor seized, 60 held in 48 hours by Gautam Buddh Nagar police

Noida (UP), Sep 29: Over 3,500 litres of illicit liquor was seized and 60 bootleggers held in 48 hours during raids by the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police under a special drive to check the menace, according to official data.

Operation 'Yellow Water' was launched on the night of September 24 and continued till the night of September 26, a police official said.

During the period, 33 people were arrested and 2,616 litres of liquor seized in the city area, including Noida, while 27 arrests were made in rural region including Dadri, Bisarkh and Surajpur, where 888 litres of liquor was seized, showed the data, accessed by.

The seized liquor included both English as well as country-made. "A total of 1,354 English-made, and 2,150 litres of country-made liquor -- totalling 3,504 litres -- was seized during the operations," according to the data.

District police chief Ajay Pal Sharma had launched the two-day concerted crackdown on bootleggers and the illegal trade of liquor in Gautam Buddh Nagar, which borders national capital Delhi, the official said.

Gautam Buddh Nagar is divided into 21 police station areas besides one dedicated women police station. Eight police stations including Sector 20, 24, 39, 49, 58, Phase 2, Phase 3 and Expressway fall under the city area.

Eleven police stations including Surajpur, Kasna, Knowledge Park, Greater Noida, Ecotech 1, Ecotech 3, Bisrakh, Badalpur, Dadri, Jarcha, Dankaur, Rabupura and Jewar come under the rural area.

According to the data for Operation Yellow Water, the biggest haul was made by the Sector 24 police station team which seized 1,584 litres of illegal liquor, including 48 litres english-made alcohol, and arrested six persons.

During the seizures, the team led by SHO Pankaj Pant also blew the lid off an illegal liquor factory operating stealthily in adjoining Ghaziabad's Tronica City.

Four people were arrested and over 1,500 litres of illicit country liquor seized from the factory, which was running under the guise of a "juice" manufacturing unit.

In the rural region, the Dadri police station team arrested nine persons and seized the maximum of 520 litres of illegal liquor, according to the data. (PTI)

Another body pulled out from rubble in Gr Noida; death toll 9

Noida (UP), Jul 19: Rescuers today pulled out another body from the debris of the two adjacent buildings that collapsed in Greater Noida on the outskirts of Delhi, pushing the death toll to nine, a fire department official said.

A six-floor under-construction building crashed on a five-storey building next to it, bringing it down as well, in Shahberi village under Bisrakh police station on Tuesday night.

Chief Fire Officer Arun Kumar Singh said the body was pulled out this morning. He has been identified as Naushad, he said.

Eight bodies were found until late last night. At least 12 labourers were in the under-construction building and all of them were feared trapped, according to Singh.

He said the operation to remove the debris may take another 20 hours.

The National Disaster Response Force has mounted the rescue operation along with the police and the fire department.

Rescuers have deployed heavy machinery to shift concrete slabs and used drills in a bid to reach people buried under the debris. Sniffer dogs were trying to detect signs of life.

Police have arrested four people, including the landowner. Altogether, 24 people have been named in the FIR. Charges include culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Officer on Special Duty in Greater Noida Development Authority, Vibha Chahal, has been removed from her post.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered the suspension of two other officials, project manager V P Singh and assistant project manager Akhtar Abbas Zaidi, for dereliction of duty.

Adityanath has asked the Meerut divisional commissioner to conduct an inquiry and determine the extent of illegal construction in the area.

Gautam Budh Nagar District Magistrate Brajesh Narayan Singh has also ordered an investigation, to be completed within 15 days.

NDRF Director General Sanjay Kumar said yesterday rescuers were exercising caution in operating the machines so that those trapped under the debris were not harmed.

This was leading to the delay, he said. (PTI)

Under-construction building collapses in Noida; 2 killed, many feared trapped

Noida, Jul 18: A six-storey under-construction building collapsed in Greater Noida, killing at least two persons and trapping several others under the debris, officials said today.

At least 12 labourers were inside the building in Shah Beri village when the incident took place and all of them are feared trapped, Chief Fire Officer Arun Kumar Singh said.

A National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) officer said that two bodies have been pulled out of the rubble.

Fire and police officials are carrying out rescue operations.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the Gautam Budh Nagar district magistrate and the police to monitor relief and rescue activities along with the NDRF team.

DGP O P Singh has informed the chief minister about the rescue operation being carried out by police and NDRF personnel. (PTI)

Lucknow, Mar 25: Uttar Pradesh police has gone for an encounter spree in the western parts of the state on Sunday morning with six encounters taking place in which two dreaded criminals were killed while two cops injured during the cross firing.
The encounters took place in Noida, Ghaziabad, Saharanpur and Muzaffarnagar in which atleast five criminals were injured and a looted AK-47 assault rifle recovered.
Officials in the state capital on Sunday said that in Noida, police shot dead one Shravan Chaudhay wanted in murder case in Delhi and Noida. One AK 47 and one single barrel gun were recovered from Shravan, who died at the hospital after receiving several bullets injuries during the encounter, confirmed DGP Headquarters sources.
The encounter took place near Parthala roundabout under Kotwali phase-3 police station at around 0600 hours. The criminals first attack the SOG team and later the police retaliated.
Another report from Saharanpur said a wanted criminal Ahsan alias Salim with a bounty of Rs 25,000 on his head was killed, but another managed to escape in an encounter with police early this morning. One police personnel was injured in this encounter.
Police has recovered Rs 1 Lakh, one motorcycle and a 9mm pistol from the possession of Salim. He was wanted in more than 40 cases of murder, kidnapping and other crime.
Another encounter was reported in Greater Noida where a criminal Manoj was injured in cross firing with police in Ghori Bachera village under Dadri police station.
A report from Muzaffarnagar said that two criminals were injured in an encounter with police in Ballie village under Budhana police station area. Both the criminals were wanted in several cases of crime in the district and police had announced a reward of Rs 10,000 each of them.
Two country made pistols and a looted motorcycle were recovered from the criminals.
A police sub-inspector was also injured during this encounter and has been rushed to the hospital.
In Ghaziabad, police said they shot at a wanted man, Rahul, after a brief chase. A constable identified as Sachin was also injured in the gunfight. A motorcycle, cartridges and a gun have been recovered from him.
In another encounter in Ghaziabad too, a criminal wanted in a murder case, carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head was shot at by police. The man identified as Sonu, who suffered bullet injuries, has been arrested. A senior police officer of Vijaynagar in Ghaziabad was also injured.
According to police, after the Yogi Adityanath government came to power on March 19,2017, till date there are reports of 1339 encounters in the state in which 44 dreaded criminals were killed.

Noida, Mar 7: City Golfers Rishab Mann Handicap Category A (0-17) and Sushil Gupta - Handicap Category B (18-24) qualified for the National Finals of 2018 Mercedes Trophy on day 1 of the Noida leg qualifier held at the Jaypee Greens Golf Resort here on Wednesday.

Rishab and Sushil clinched the first two qualification spots available from the leg by carding a nett score of 71.8 and 72.6 respectively. The Mercedes Trophy has so far seen 39 qualifiers including today who will be competing in the National Finals to be played at the Oxford Golf Resort in Pune from April 4.

Teenager sisters found hanging outside village in Noida

Noida, Dec 26: Bodies of two teenaged sisters were found hanging from a tree outside their house at Barola village in Sector 49 Noida, on Tuesday, police said.

Police reached the spot on receiving the information regarding the bodies hanging from a tree at the Barola village, it is suspected to be a case of suicide, police added.
However, family members have alleged that the two sisters, Lakshmi, Nisha aged 18 and 13 respectively were murdered and said some of the relatives might be involved as they misbehaved with the girls earlier.
Although there is no proof on the murder angle as there were no such marks on the body, police said, while the bodies were sent for post-mortem.
The mother of the girls have also alleged that their relatives, Rishi Bablu and Ravi, might be behind this as they have earlier threatened to kill the daughters when they used to visit their place. UNI

Pregnant woman to death in Noida

Noida, Nov 13: UP Police have arrested a parking attendant for crushing an eight-month pregnant woman to death at Sector 18 market of Gautam Budh Nagar district here on Sunday.
According to Circle Officer (CO) Shwetamber Pandey, the deceased was identified as Malti, resident of JS Aroma Society, falling under Sector 75 police station. The mother-to-be had come to the market for shopping with her husband Prateek. While they were returning, the parking attendant ran over her on a speeding car, injuring her seriously. She was taken to a private hospital nearby, where doctors declared her dead. Mr Pandey said the medicos could not save the eight-month-old foetus. According to the CO, the accused first rammed the car into two standing vehicles and later crushed the woman. Afterwards, the vehicle hit a pillar and stopped.
Police arrested the accused and started investigations, he added. UNI
