Mumbai, Feb 1 :  Noted actor Shabana Azmi, who was injured in an accident last month, on Saturday said that she is back home now and thanked her fans for praying for her speedy recovery.

The 69-year-old actor suffered head injuries when her car met with an accident on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway on January 18. Her husband, veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar, was also there in the vehicle but escaped unhurt.

The actor and her driver Kamlesh Kamath were taken to the MGM hospital in Navi Mumbai and later shifted to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in suburban Andheri the same day.

"Thank you all for your prayers and wishes for my recovery

. I'm back home now," Azmi wrote on Twitter alongside a post-recovery photo of herself.

"Thank you #Tina Ambani and Kokilaben Ambani hospital for the sterling care provided by the doctors team and the nursing staff. Im indebted and grateful," she added.

Azmi's driver has been booked for rash driving and negligence.

Shabana Azmi injured in accident on Mumbai-Pune Expressway


Mumbai, Jan 18 :  Actor Shabana Azmi and another person were injured in an accident on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway in Maharashtra's Raigad district on Saturday, the police said.

Azmi was rushed to MGM Hospital in Navi Mumbai and was said to be out of danger, said a police official. Her husband and lyricist Javed Akhtar, who was traveling with her, escaped unhurt.

The incident took place near Khalapur, over 60 km from Mumbai, when the Tata Safari car in which they were traveling to Pune rammed into a truck, said Raigad Superintendent of Police Anil Paraskar.

A local police official said the car driver was apparently trying to overtake another vehicle and rammed into the truck.

One more person who was travelling in the car sustained minor injuries, he said. His identity was not known yet.

Azmi's spokesperson said the actor was undergoing a check-up. "She is fine, nothing to worry about," the spokesperson added.

Javed Akhtar celebrated his 75th birthday on Friday.

"Shabana Azmi injured in road accident on Mumbai-Pune Expressway OMG! Praying so hard," actor Swara Bhaskar tweeted.

Azmi is known for her path-breaking roles in films such as "Arth", "Ankur", "Paar", "Masoom" and "Godmother".

New Delhi, Nov 29: Bollywood actor Shabana Azmi, who is travelling to Malaysia's capital Kuala Lumpur for an honour to be bestowed upon her by Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, on Wednesday expressed her happiness over the acknowledgement. 
Taking to Twitter, a jubilant Shabana posted, "Off to Kuala Lumpur for The Economic Times Asian Business Leaders Conclave where I'm being felicitated by Prime Minister of Malaysia. Honored". 
The versatile actor, who is the only leading lady from Bollywood to win the National Award for Best Actress five times, has earned accolades both from critics and fans for her powerhouse performances in movies like 'Godmother', 'Arth', 'Ankur', 'Masoom', 'Avtaar' and 'Neerja'.
The talented actor did not even shy away from doing the negative role of a witch in children's movie 'Makdee'.

New Delhi, Nov 18: Veteran actor Shabana Azmi on Saturday appealed to the entire film industry to boycott the prestigious International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in protest against the threat to Deepika Padukone, who played 'Padmavati' in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film of the same name, the director and others involved in its making.
'The entire film industry should boycott IFFI in protest against the threats to deepikapadukone SLB and # Padmavati,' Ms Azmi tweeted.IFFI, the annual celebration of the cinema begins in Goa from November 20 Some groups like Sri Rajput Karni Sena have said they will not allow the film to be released and threatened Deepika and Bansali with dire consequences. Ms Azmi also slammed the Government over 'keeping quiet' about threat of violence against Padmavati.
She said Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani was able to showcase the best of Indian films to the world through IFFI only because of the talent and hard work of the Indian film Industry.' Smriti Irani is preparing dats possible only bcoz the Indian film industry brings such acclaim to it but keeps quiet about Padmavati,' Ms Azmi said in another tweet.'This is exactly like HKL Bhagat and Congress celebrating IFFI in Delhi after the murder of Safdar Hashmi in 1089.
