ANANTNAG, MARCH 27: An awareness programme regarding the implementation of various state and centrally sponsored schemes was  organised by the Labour Department here today.
MLA Kokernag, Abdul Rahim Rather was Chief Guest of the function. The MLA distributed cheques worth Rs 21 lakh among the registered beneficiaries and inaugurated online registration process in presence of District Development Commissioner Anantnag, Mohammad Younis Malik.
On the occasion, 143 fresh registration cards were also distributed among the labours by the MLA.
The MLA said that government is very keen regarding the upliftment of the labour class and various   welfare schemes have been launched for their welfare.  He expressed pleasure and satisfaction over the functioning of the Labour Department. He instructed the officers of the Department to create mass awareness among the people regarding its schemes and programmes so that benefit reaches the maximum beneficiaries. 
Meanwhile, DDC Anantnag while interacting with the labours, said that need of the hour is to aware each and every labourer of the district to get themselves registered with the department and take benefit of various welfare schemes for which he impressed the concerned officers to put in concerted efforts in this regard.
He further added that the Department should undertake a proper survey to ensure that the benefits are availed by the deserving ones. The DDC further detailed about different schemes for the welfare of the labour class including financial assistance for education, marriage, treatment of chronic diseases, maternity benefits, etc.
Among others present in the function were the Assistant Labour Commissioner, Officers of the JKEDI and large number  of labourers from various parts of the district.



BANDIPORA, MARCH 13: District Administration Bandipora organised awareness cum cheque distribution camp here today.
The function was presided over by District Development Commissioner (DDC) Bandipora Sajad Hussain. Assistant Labour Commissioner (ALC) Bandipora, concerned officials, affected families and construction workers were present on the occasion.
The participants on the occasion were sensitised about various schemes and welfare programmes underway for the labour community.
The DDC on the occasion distributed cheques amounting to over Rs.12 lakh under various welfare schemes of JKBOCWWB among the deserving.
Speaking to the gathering, the DDC asked the concerned officer to clear all the pending cases as per the commitment made by the Chief Minister during Public Durbar here in December last. He also stressed for the conduct of awareness programmes in rural and remote areas of the district.
Giving details of the cheques, the ALC said that Rs.10.25 lakh were provided in favour of 5 death cases, RS.1.34 lakh given to 4 workers ailing from chronic diseases, while as Rs 50,000 provided to one deserving as higher education assistance.

Legislators for empowering labour class, recognizing their contribution

SHOPIAN AUGUST 31: Stressing that the Government is committed to socio-economic uplift of labour class, MLA Shopian, Mohammad Yosuf Bhat and MLA Wachi, Aijaz Ahmad Mir today said society needs to recognize and value their hard work.
They said the present Government led by Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti is very keen on empowering the labour class and various welfare measures are afoot in this regard.
The MLAs were speaking at a day-long awareness camp, organized by Labour Department at Circuit House Shopian which witnessed a large gathering of building and other construction workers, contractors and other working classes of the society.
The Legislators said the Government would do everything possible to address the needs of the down trodden and labour class, adding that they are essential components of the society.
While highlighting the significance of the awareness programme, they said the main aim of the workshop is to educate the working section about their rights and their protection.
          Reiterating the Government’s agenda of reaching out to every section of society, they said that the labour class is vital for the socio-economic development of the society.
          On the occasion, they distributed cheques worth Rs. 1.03 crore among 1092 beneficiaries which includes Rs. 84, 56,000 as educational assistance, Rs. 2, 52,550 as chronic disease assistance and Rs 16, 40,000 as death and funeral cases among building and other construction workers.
          District Development Commissioner Shopian  said the labourers are the prime constituent of the society and assured that the district administration will take every possible step for their welfare.

          On the occasion, the Assistant Labour Commissioner informed that upto 2017, as many as 1092 beneficiaries have been covered among which Rs. 1, 03, 48,550 has been disbursed.
Reviews Eid arrangements in Kupwara district
SRINAGAR, JUNE 24: Minister for Rural Development Panchayati Raj, Law and Justice Abdul Haq today said the state government is committed to uplift the socio-economic status of economically weaker section of the society.
          Minister said this while distributing cheques worth Rs 2.33 crore under different state sponsored schemes.  He said government is akin to issues of the common masses especially that of labourers, unemployed youths and other weaker sections. He said steps are being taken for effective implementation of various welfare schemes so that genuine people are benefitted from these schemes.
          Earlier Minister a sum of Rs 2.33 crore among 2930 beneficiaries under different schemes of District Labourer department.  
Under Building and other Construction Worker's Welfare Board rules, the minister distributed Rs 2.25 crore as Education assistance to 2921 children of labourers. Under medicial assistance scheme for the labourers, minister also gave away cheques worth 1.58 lakh to 6 labourers who were injured during work.
          Minister also distributed cheques worth 6.15 Lakhs to three households who lost their lone breadwinners.
          Later Minister reviewed Eid arrangements in district Kupwara and directed officials to maintain complete synergy to put every possible effort in order to ensure smooth celebrations of Eid-ul-Fitr festivals. Meeting was attended by DC Kupwara and all senior officials of the district and district heads of all the departments.
          The Minister stressed the concerned authorities for ensuring proper sanitation around Eidgahs, Masjids, besides also the installing of LED lamps and proper supply of electricity as well as drinking water. He also directed for keeping the requisite medical facilities at the places where big congregations take place.
          He also asked the Municipal authorities to put in place the requisite men and machinery for ensuring the requisite cleanliness around Mosques and Eidgahs.
          Earlier Minister was informed that different departments realized fine of Rs 1.25 lakh from erring traders and 20 quintal rotten vegetables and milk were destroyed during market checking in the district. He was informed that the district administration continues with the anti-polythene drive and fine is being imposed on the usage of polythene in the district.
          Minister was further informed that Animal and Sheep Husbandry has put 10000 poultry birds on sale on the eve of Eid while one thousand sheep have also been put on sale at various places for the convenience of the people.

JAMMU, JUNE 09: Labour Commissioner, Dr Abdul Rashid, chaired a meeting to review functioning of the department.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Labour Commissioner Jammu Ankur Mahajan, Inspector of Factories Raj Kumar Bhagat, Atam Dev Singh Additional Provident Fund Commissioner and All Assistant Labour Commissioners of Jammu Division.

The Commissioner emphasised the need to provide hassle free services to the employers so that they deal with the issues of the deprived labour class efficiently and neither the employer nor the labour class is exploited. He asked the department to be prompt and responsive towards providing speedy justice to the deserving and asked   the officers to perform their duties in a transparent manner.

The Additional Provident Fund Commissioner informed that all the cases brought into the notice of the Commissioner have been resolved and appropriate action has been taken.

The issues of pendency in court cases under various Labour Laws were discussed and it was emphasised to expedite the disposal of cases for timely justice. It was highlighted that the department has to act as an instrument in prohibition and subsequent eradication of the menace of child labour.

The issues of migrant workers, implementation of minimum wages act, compensation to the employees, shops and establishment act, Factories act, staff shortage, infrastructural development were also raised.

The officers also apprised the chair of various issues, problems faced by them in execution of Labour Laws governed by the Centre and State.
