PULWAMA, JULY 17: The DDC Pulwama along with a team of officers took an extensive tour of
district Pampore to address conversion issue of Saffron land for construction
activities and illegal soil extraction for filling of lowland areas.
The team comprised of Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Tehsildar
Pampore, Naib Tehsildar, Chief Agriculture Officer Pulwama and other concerned
officers.
During the visit the DDC ordered immediate stoppage of extraction of
land and said that anybody seen involved in this illegal activity will be given
strict punishment as per the relevant laws of the land. He also directed the
revenue officials to immediately stop the construction work in the said land
and directed the concerned to book the culprits under law.
The DDC said that despite the stagnation in the production of saffron especially
after floods that hit the saffron land hard, yet the yield per hectare has
shown quite improvement. The DDC credited the success to the efforts of both
central and state governments who achieved the results under the flagship
National Saffron Mission program.
Earlier, the
Chief Agriculture Officer Pulwama had reported that excavation of earth by some
persons from Chandhara is posing threat to saffron land.
He complained that the world famous Karewas are being leveled to carry
the excavated soil to different places for filling up lowlands.
They
appealed the district administration to take proactive role in stopping this
illegal extraction of land.
Later DDC also visited Lethpora area and inspected the work on the
Sprinkle irrigation system at Lethpora where the field officials gave practical
demonstration to the visiting team.
