Appealed the Public to destroy
the Poppy/ Bhang from their respective areas
PULWAMA, JULY 5: The Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, G.M DAR has appealed
general public of district Pulwama to shun away from cultivation of poppy and
cannabis or face strict legal action. He has asked the public to destroy the
Poppy whether wild or cultivated form from their respective areas and free the
district from the ill consequences of poppy and cannabis cultivation.
Deputy Commissioner said that such
illegal activities are detrimental to the entire society, particularly to the
young generation and emphasized that it is the bounden duty of every
respectable citizen of the society to free it from the clutches of drug menace.
He also stressed on creating more awareness so that the drug menace is
eradicated completely from the society and appealed to various local Auqaf
committees and other relevant stake holders to spread awareness regarding the
illegal nature of such activities and consequences thereof.
Deputy Commissioner also directed the officers to intensify
village wise anti-bhang and poppy cultivation drive to root out the menace from
the district and in this regard joint teams comprising officials from revenue
police, agriculture, social welfare, forest, Excise, R& B,
Irrigation etc have been constituted to conduct random monitoring
and mapping for eradication of wild bhang grown along roadsides and riverbanks
They will also map timely survey and conduct destruction of bhang and poppy
crop in its infancy stage.
It was given out that the stern necessary action as per the law would be
initiated against the offenders who grow, harvest, store, transport buy/sell or
deal with such illegal activities.
