Mirwaiz press conference foiled, journalists prevented by forces

Srinagar, Jul 29 : Moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq was not allowed to address a press conference at his Nigeen house where he has been put under house arrest for the past over a month. Mirwaiz was scheduled to address a press conference at 1500 hrs at his Nigeen residence. However, additional security forces and state police personnel were deployed and no media person was allowed to enter the house. No journalist was allowed to cover the event as the route leading to Mirwaiz’s Nageen residence has been completely sealed, a spokesman for the Hurriyat said. He said now the press conference will be addressed online through Twitter and Facebook and media persons can ask question online at 1630 hrs, he said. The media advisor to Mirwaiz, Advocate Shahidul Islam has already been arrested by National Investigation Agency (NIA) alongwith other separatist leaders, in connection with alleged terror funding in Kashmir.
