Bhopal, Aug 18 : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah today arrived to a rapturous welcome in the Madhya Pradesh capital on a three-day visit. Mr Shah arrived at the Raja Bhoj Airport here in a special aircraft at 0900 hrs. He was welcomed by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, his cabinet ministers, BJP vice-president Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, state unit chief Nand Kumar Singh Chauhan and other leaders. Amid unprecedented preparations made by the party for welcoming their president, hundreds of party workers – on their motorcycles – followed Mr Shah in the form of a convoy up to a distance of 15 km till the state BJP office. In this view, traffic was diverted at several places thereby causing inconveniences to commuters. His reception was interspersed with to the beating of drums and the showering of petals from stages erected at short distances. On the way, Mr Shah also unveiled a statue of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya at the Lalghati Square. On reaching the state BJP office after approximately one-and-half hour, the BJP President commenced a joint meeting of party office-bearers and lawmakers as scheduled earlier. The meeting was being attended by the party’s central office-bearers, state core group members, state office-bearers, spokespersons, MPs, MLAs, district president, divisional organisation secretaries, morchas’ presidents and other office-bearers. It is being said that Mr Shah not only provided ‘mantra’ for success but also indicated towards rectification of errors during the meeting. He is also scheduled to visit Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s residence where he would meet heads of religious and social organisations. He would also meet cabinet ministers and former lawmakers during his stay. Soon after reaching the City of Lakes, the BJP President posted photographs of his arrival and of being welcomed by hundreds of party workers on social media and expressed gratitude to people for their love and support. “Hard work of party workers and public’s unwavering support are the BJP’s assets,” he posted on social media. Mr Shah was scheduled to arrive last night via a regular flight. However, he was unable to come, as his meeting took longer than expected. His visit was rescheduled and he was expected to arrive in a special aircraft later but it too had to be called off due to technical problem in the plane. UNI
