Darjeeling, Aug 25: Close on the heels of yesterday's explosion at Sukhiapokhari Police Station, an abortive attempt was made to blow up the Peshok bridge near Teesta Bazar, even as the GMCC leadership was busy would hold a meeting at Chitre later today to pick up delegates for representing Darjeeling Hills for peace talk at Nabanna on August 29 to be chaired by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Reinforcement and forensic experts visited the site of explosion, which was triggered at the wee hours today. It was close to Peshok bridge (iron and concrete) linking Teesta Bazar with Darjeeling. However, there was no damage to the bridge, also linking Lamahatta, a tourist spot. Local people heard the explosion around 0130 hours and informed local police, which immediately inspected the area and called for reinforcement of combat forces. The bomb experts visited the site and collected samples for ascertaining the nature of the explosives. The explosion was the fourth in seven days after Darjeeling and Kalimpong Police Station, and 24 hours after Sukhiapokhari police station. In the Kalimpong blast, a Civic Volunteer was killed and two others were injured on August 20. UNI
