Srinagar,
Aug 1: Concerned over the continued use of polythene in the Kashmir valley
despite ban, the Government has asked for a coordinated effort in order to
ensure the effective implementation of the ban on polythene and its related
products.
Speaking at a meeting convened to discuss the measures to be taken for ensuring a complete ban on polythene, Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh today asked for taking the necessary measures for ensuring the effective implementation of the ban on polythene.
He said that the same is very necessary for maintaining the fragile environment and ecology of our state. He said that the government is ensuring every possible step in order to preserve the eco-system of the state and the execution of the ban of the product would go a long way in supplementing the initiatives of the government.
Dr Singh said that the Swachta campaign started by the Prime Minister, has been instrumental in ensuring the cleanliness in our rural areas and cities and the onus lies on us to ensure its implementation and the ban on the polymer should also be taken as a part of the program started by our premier.
He said that we should all collectively synergize our efforts to ensure the implementation of the polythene ban and people should also contribute their bit. He said that they should change their shopping habits by doing away with the tendency of taking their shopping items in polythene bags and explore the possibilities of having other bio-degradable shopping bags.
Minister for Rural Development Abdul Haq, while speaking on the occasion highlighted the measures undertaken by the rural development department in ensuring that the use of polythene is stopped in the rural areas of the state.
He said that the necessary instruction has already been conveyed to the district officers and District Panchayat officers to ensure the effective implementation of the ban and necessary headway has been achieved in the endeavor.
The polythene is freely used in the Kashmir valley, including summer capital, Srinagar despite ban and clear cut directions by the High Court not to allow entry of polythene in Kashmir from outside and its use.UNI
